Think the Sens would let go of their first rounder and Lehner for it?.

Maybe not both. I thought you meant Lehner or Bishop straight up for the 2nd overall. The value is pretty close though.

Doug Maclean was speculating last night that Burkie might offer Jake Gardiner to the Oilers and the No. 5 pick for the Oilers No. 1 pick. I'm not sold on Yakipov, but I do like Gardiner. If that was presented to me, I would take it.

I think a starting goalie and a later (second round) pick is fair for the #2 overall.

Lehner or Bishop are both studs, but have never been a full season on the hot seat. So that's why I asked on the first.

Not gonna happen, anyway. Howson is going to stumble up to the podium, reeking of alcohol and draft another Russian mama's boy no one has ever heard of with the second. And Craig Patrick will be sitting next to him, shrugging.

I'd do that too if I was the Coilers. Gardiner looks like a very good D-man and there will be an excellent player still available at #5.

LOL.

I honestly don't know what to think abut Grigorenko. At the start of the year he looked primed to be the next Malkin.

I watched a game of his last month and he looked like a playoff Alexei Yashin.

This kid is a wild card. So much talent.

Maksim Mayorov
Nikita Filatov
Gilbert Brule
Nik Zherdev
Stephan Legien
Pascal LeClaire
Alexandre Picard

Been there, done that, got the scars to prove it.

And grabbing Murray instead is not a great idea as D-men take a few years to develop (unless they are Erik Karlsson and they develop after one) and the Jackets are really deep with young D.

That's why I say use the pick to fill the gap everyone knows exists and let someone absorb the risk. Yeah, it could bite you (Couturier) but the need for a goalie is immediate, and none of the UFAs exactly set the world on fire. Who's the best available? Vokoun?

The Jackets core seems to be more impacted by later round picks, anyhoo.

Look at it like this:
1st rounder - Gilbert Brule
Later rounds - Kris Russell (traded for Nikitin), Jared Boll

1st Rounder - Nik Zherdev
Later Rounds - Marc Methot

1st Rounder - Nik Filatov
Later Rounds - Cam Atkinson, Cody Golubef, Matt Calvert

And the Jackets also have a great history with Free Agents. Fedorov, Foote...

What's sad about losing the lottery is now the pressure is off Howson. He doesn't have to worry about answering questions as to why he traded the 1st overall pick. He can select Filip Forsberg & call it a night.

What are the odds the Oilers try to trade the 1st pick, they could use young help on D?

The Oil should move the No. 1 move pick this year for help on defense, but who knows what those two monkeys in Edmonton will do.

They could keep the pick & take a defenseman or trade down & take one. I don't expect them to trade the pick for a defenseman alone.

Some have said Montreal could or should trade Subban. I don't see it. Trading away a 22 year old stud for an unknown doesn't make sense.

If Edmonton does trade the pick it will be interesting to see what they get in return.

No, I agree, they should do the following:

- Trade the 1st overall pick with a team picking 2 through 10 and receive a NHL puck moving defenseman in the swap.

- Pick one of the top rated defensemen in the draft with their later 1st round pick.

Well the Islanders are out of the mix. There's no way they're trading Hamonic & Streit is an UFA at the end of next season making 4.1M.

Hmm... Giordano & Calgary's 1st??

It would be the 2nd time the two teams have ever made a trade.:D:
