Pens are in good shape next year and the following year... Paul Martin will simply be bought out. That'll save 5 million. As folks know, Pens are loaded with top end D prospects... some already have 1-2 yrs pro experience (AHL) some will be rookies this year... but you will see them up and down this season gaining experience at the NHL level. No worries about the cap situation. Assuming it goes up.

It's a lot of money and a huge commitment to Letang. Cap hit per season comes in just below Weber and Suter, and just in front of Campbell. That's about what I expected, although I was hoping for 7 or less.

Ray Shero will probably retire in about 4 years. I wouldn't want to in charge of that team after that. Older guys, big dollars, NMCs

I don't think Ray will be retiring in four years as he is still relatively young as a GM. If he did though, the only players on the team theoretically would be Sid, Geno, Neal and now, Letang. Pittsburgh only has five contracts on the books past the 2014-15 season... Six if you count Bennett as a RFA

one thing that will end my seasons hopes (if I had any) if Gillis does nothing to change the crop of this team and comes out and says - we believe in this group and with a new voice we think we can contend for the stanley cup

Id lose it

LoL

I have heard this line from the media as well, though. Trying to create a doom scenario with these long term deals to Malkin and now, Letang.

I just like to point out that those five players are their core, and Shero has plenty of cap space and options to build around them. He doesn't have dumb, front loaded deals to second and third line wingers, or second/third pairing d-men. He has played his hand fairly well when it comes to term and dollars, IMO.

Bobrovsky being offered to teams by the Blue Jackets. Told he wants $6 mil per. Columbus in market for a goalie.

Poop.

C'mon Jarmo. You have to figure he was gonna get 5.5. Just fucking do it.

Unless you can trade him back to Philly. For Giroux and Couturier.

Sharks and Flyers are the first teams to fill up their draft floor table

All anyone's been saying is how "far apart" they were. I figure that the Jackets were offering 5. If he wants 6 that's not that far. Especially when you consider that some team will go 6.5 or more on an offer sheet and the Jackets will probably match to 6.5. 6 is cheaper.

I understand being worried that this year was a fluke and you don't want to go 6 years. So tell him you'll give him 5.5/6 for 2 and if he has a good full season renegotiate. A second Vezina would be worth 7+.
