Well thought I would give an update of the players I have drafted.
1st--Cameron Erving--Got the most versatile OL player in the entire draft. The guy could start just about anywhere for us and find success. Figured that is a good type of player to have.
2nd--Hau'oli Kikaha--This guy lead the nation in sacks and was 2nd for tackles for loss. He combined for 44 plays this last season behind the LOS. So that is an average of almost 4 negative plays a game. He did have 2 knee injuries which is why he is available in the 2nd round but this kid could be the pass rusher to replace Ware that we have been wanting.
3rd--Marcus Hardison--This might be one of my favorite players in the entire draft. He is a one year wonder but what a year he had. He lead all DT's in sacks and added another 15 TFL's. He fits our 1-gap penetrating defense perfectly. Throw in I do think he has only began to tap into his ability. Gives us a nice rotation piece this year and can hopefully start next year.
4th--Garrett Grayson--I wasn't planning on taking a quarterback in this draft but him still available at the end of the 4th was just too hard to pass up. Worth at least seeing what he can do at this point.
5th--Chris Conley--This guy lit up the combine. Georgia was more of a running team but this kid showed some great ability in his limited chances. Give him a year to develop and this kid could become a huge home run hitter for us.
5th--Xavier Williams--If you haven't caught on yet I love guys who can make explosive plays. While Hardison would be more of one of our DE's Williams fits more of a NT role for us. He has improved every year in college and this last year finished with 8 sacks. He is a former wrestler and knows how to win the battle for leverage. A guy who can shoot the gap but also can hold up against a double team if needed. This is one of those motor guys who isn't the most athletic but a guy you know will give you his all every single snap.
6th--Zach Vigil--This is one of those guys that can play any of our linebacker spots and do well. This last year he had 20.5 TFL plus then had 9 sacks. He was one of the most productive linebackers in all of college football. He falls to the 6th because he is a small school kid. He is one of those guys that could develop into a 3-down linebacker. Can make plays in the run game but knows how to play in coverage as well.
Haven't made it to the 7th round guys yet but at this point I've gotten 3 big time guys for getting after the quarterback and on offense possibly have our quarterback of the future who can sit for a year, a WR with some major explosion, and an OL guy who could be a pro bowler by his 2nd year. I feel good so far of how this draft fell. Should have maybe taken another OL player but hey still have 3 picks to go.
