Wow! Well, I think firemen know other firemen, so I would no be surprised if Dave didn't at least meet your dad. Heck, he probably knew all the firefighters in Modesto. He did move back to the Bay Area (Danville) when he got remarried back in the mid-90's.

Cancer svcks. He fought a glioblastoma brain tumor for several years before succumbing. I actually got to co-lead his memorial service. Over 1,000 firefighters showed up. It was intimidating, but like the military, they have their own rituals. I still get some comments on FB from firefighters who were there about some of the things I said. Although not a firefighter, I have been adopted into the brotherhood. When I can, especially during wildfire season, if I see a strike team at In 'n' Out somewhere, I try to insist on buying the crew a meal, in honor of Captain Dave.
I like it Stokes. Great way to honor your brother’s memory

Marco Luciano already has 2 home runs with Sacramento tonight and they just entered the bottom of the 2nd inning

Luciano has recorded a hit in 7 of his last 8 games. He has 10 hits, including 4 home runs, in 32 at-bats during that span.

Luci is COMING.

Ponch, you were a great Giant, but your time has come.

He went into a deep funk with the bat that he is just now getting out of. I don't think he is on the verge of a promotion. The Giants may want to see some sustained offense from him in AAA first.

Vaun Brown was on Richmond's developmental list for a few weeks. I was sure that they were about to release him. Glad to see he is playing in games.
WTF happened to him? He was meteor last year, then…

POOF

The Giants have signed LHP Clayton Andrews to a minor league deal and assigned him to the ACL Giants. Andrews has a 3.49 ERA and a 12.2 K/9 across six minor league seasons. He began the year on the Yankees' 40-man roster. Born in Petaluma.

In very limited MLB action, he has been lit up. I am not sure he is anything more than Sacto depth.

Well, the RiverCats' roster did recently get its pitching staff pared down from 19 to 17, so I guess there is room for another one.

Whatever happened to Mason Black at the big league level went with him back to AAA. In 8 starts since getting optioned, he has lasted past the 4th inning just once ( a 6 inning shutout against Las Vegas) and gotten shelled to the tune of a 9.57 ERA and a 2.165 WHIP. Don't think we'll be seeing him back with SF anytime soon.

The Giants may have a hitter in Richmond worth watching. Jairo Pomares, who turns 24 years old in early August, spent the first month of 2024 on the Il, but since getting activated in early May, has become the best hitter in Richmond, posting a .253/.300/.506 slash in 195 PAs. Just over half of his hits (23 of 45) have gone for extra bases. An international signing from Cuba, Pomares biggest problem has been his health. To date, the career high for games played in a season is 99 in 2022. Last year, he got in to just 9 games at the end of the year with the ACL Giants Orange. A pending minor league free agent, the Giants may seriously consider adding him to the 40 man roster if he can keep up the production and stay healthy the rest of 2024.

I believe he was a big international signing a few years back. Maybe the same year as Lucky? He was a big prospect at one time.

Ryan Ure is the Giants 19th-round pick from this year's draft. Missed much of the past 2 seasons due to TJ surgery. Had a 2.89 ERA with 8 strikeouts in 9.1 innings during the Cape Cod League this summer. Also, throws 103 MPH evidently.

Hope he does better than Rohan Handa. Similar story - missed a lot of time in college (although part of his was due to the pandemic). Got showcased in, I believe, the same summer league. Flashed some good stuff. And then Handa didn't throw a pitch in a professional game before retiring due to health.
