What makes Ray Black so exciting is he has such high spin rates on his fastball and breaking ball, to go with premium velocity. IF IF IF IF IF IF he's ever healthy, he doesn't need great command to be a lethal pitcher.

I'm not joking whatsoever by saying he has some of the nastiest stuff on the planet.

IF IF IF IF IF IF he shows some consistency this year and the ability to go back to back days and all, the Giants probably won't hesitate to call him up. Gotta use his bullets while he still has ammo.

Mac played LF on Sunday and went 3-3 with 2 walks. He normally plays RF. He is batting .548 on the young season.

If our current outfield continues to struggle and he continues to hit by May 1st, the org needs to bring him up. It will be interesting to see how they do it considering the only two outfielders that are producing are the backups.

Cutch will be given darn near the entire year. His job is not in danger.

Pence and Jax are ripe for replacement, though. I think your May 1 is a good estimate if a timeline, though.

I find it interesting that Miguel Gomez got moved from Sacramento to Richmond last week. Granted, his numbers in 3 games weren't great but he hit well at AA last year and the guys the Giants decided to keep around (Rutledge and Calixte) aren't doing any better. D'Arnaud and Hanson have started off hot but do the Giants really need to keep that many middle infielders at AAA at the expense of their one guy on the 40 man roster?

My WAG is that they have better coaches in AA?? Or they just want to help Richmond field a better team (I don’t think they were expected to be very good going into the season).

Sunday 4/15

Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) lost 15-5 (5-6)

Mac Williamson 3-3, 1 RBI (14), 2 BB
Austin Slater 3-5, 2 2B, 1 R, 1 K. Mac has gotten all the attention, but Slater is on fire himself with a 218 wRC+
Myles Schroder 2-4, 3B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 error
Alen Hanson 2-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, 1 R

Jose Flores 3.0-3-9-6-7-3
Steven Okert 1.0-6-5-5-0-0. This appearance will take awhile to work off, if ever.
Roberto Gomez 2.0-3-1-1-0-1
Jose Valdez 1.2-0-0-0-3-4
Myles Schroder 1.1-0-0-0-1-1

So Myles Schroder is a position player, but pitched pretty well in this blowout. Was allegedly throwing mid 80s with the fastball and a low 70s curveball. That's pretty cool.

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) WON 7-6 in a walkoff (7-3)

Luigi Rodriguez 2-3, 3B, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI
Jonah Arenado 2-4, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Matt Lipka 1-2, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 CS (5th!). Scored the game winning run
Ronnie Jebavy 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (5th), 1 assist from CF

Garrett Williams 4.0-4-4-2-5-3
Jake McCasland 2.0-0-0-0-0-2
Ryan Halstead 2.0-1-1-1-2-1
Caleb Simpson 1.0-2-1-0-1-2

Williams was hanging in there through the fourth inning with just one run, though he was laboring. He couldn't record an out in the fifth, though, and was chased from the game.

San Jose Giants (A+) WON 5-4 in a walkoff (7-3)

Gio Brusa 1-5, HR (3), 2 RBI, 1 R, 2 K. His was a walkoff blast. Have a week kid. What's weirder about this is that Jalen Miller hit a walkoff homer the game before. Brusa and Miller also cycled in the same game earlier this week. That's wild.
Heath Quinn 4-4, 1 R
Jacob Heyward 1-3, 2 R, 1 BB
Brandon Van Horn 2-3, 1 RBI

Melvin Adon 6.0-2-2-2-1-4
Will Smith 0.2-2-1-1-0-2
Nolan Riggs 1.1-0-0-0-1-0
Michael Cederoth 1.0-0-0-0-1-1
Rodolfo Martinez 1.0-2-1-0-0-0

Adon gave up a homer to Chad Pinder the second batter of the game, then went on to retire 13 in a row.

Smith made another rehab appearance

Augusta GreenJackets (A) were postponed (6-5)

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) WON 4-2 (8-3)

Luigi Rodriguez 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB (1st)
Ali Castillo 3-4, 2 R, SB (3rd), CS (2nd)
Miguel Gomez 2-3, 1 BB

Cory Taylor 5.0-5-1-1-3-3
Dan Slania 2.0-2-1-1-0-1
Dusten Knight 1.0-0-0-0-1-0
Ray Black 0.2-1-0-0-2-2
Tyler Cyr 0.1-0-0-0-0-1

Ray Black has 9 K's in 3.1 innings.

San Jose Giants (A+) WON 4-2 in 10 innings

Jalen Miller 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 SB (2nd)
Gio Brusa 2-5, 3 Ks, 1 E (3rd)
Brandon Van Horn 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB (2nd), 1 K

Andrew Suarez 6.2-8-1-1-2-7
Dylan Rheault 0.1-0-0-0-0-1
Logan Webb 3.0-1-1-0-3-3

You're probably thinking "wait, what is Suarez doing in San Jose" and I have an answer for you. The River Cats were rained out in Sacramento, so they shipped him down a couple of hours to pitch in Visallia and stay on track. That's it. Don't read into it.

Augusta GreenJackets (A) lost 4-2

Rob Calabrese 2-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Heliot Ramos 1-4, 1 K, 1 CS (4th). Ramos has a 9-game hit steak, but also a 15/0 K/BB ratio. It's going to be a process with him, no doubt.
Jacob Gonzalez 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Jason Bahr 5.0-3-0-0-0-9
Eduardo Rivera 2.0-3-3-3-1-4
Olbis Parra 2.0-3-1-1-1-2

The star of the day in undoubtedly Jason Bahr. In the last two games he has an 18/1 K/BB ratio with 5 hits and no runs in 10.2 innings. Drafted out of Central Florida in the 5th round last year, Bahr throws a mid 90s fastball with good sink, a slider in the low 80s and a curveball in the 70s. Was primarily a reliever in college.

Sacramento River Cats (AAA) lost 12-3 (5-7)

Mac Williamson 1-4, HR (6th), 2 RBI (16), 1 R, 1 K. Mac's 6th homer is tied for 1st in the PCL, his 14 RBI are 3rd, his 1.026 SLG% and 1.626 OPS are BY FAR 1st.
Steven Duggar 1-3, 2B, 1 BB, 1 R
Chris Shaw 1-4, 2B
Alen Hanson 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB (4th). Quietly hitting .424, could push Kelby at some point. FWIW, Hansen is younger.

Casey Kelly 3.2-11-9-9-1-1
Dillon McNamara 0.1-0-0-0-0-0
Will Smith 1.0-0-0-0-0-2
Will LaMarche 1.0-3-3-3-2-1
Manny Parra 2.0-0-0-0-2-2

Will Smith is the biggest thing here worth paying attention to. Still on track for May 1.

Richmond Flying Squirrels (AA) WON 1-0 (9-3)

Miguel Gomez 2-4
Ali Castillo 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K

Shaun Anderson 6.0-4-0-0-1-4
Mike Connolly 2.0-0-0-0-1-2
Caleb Simpson 1.0-0-0-0-2-1

Shaun Anderson making that Nunez trade look better by the day. Speaking of the trade, here's the icing on the cake

San Jose Giants (A+) lost 4-1 (8-5)

Good news, the batters took 9 walks in this one. The bad news? They only collected 2 hits.

Conner Menez 5.0-1-0-0-3-8
Nolan Riggs 1.0-2-3-2-1-1
Carlos Diaz 2.0-2-1-1-1-0

Steven Duggar 1-4, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS (2)

Jake McCasland 1.0-0-0-0-0-0
Tyler Cyr 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

A+: San Jose Giants lost 9-6 (8-6)

Jalen Miller 2-5, HR (3), 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB (3). Maybe this is the year Miller breaks out. Still just 21 years old and tooled up, he's batting .333/.375/.567 so far. Leads the CAL League in hits

Manuel Geraldo 3-4, 2 RBI
Shane Matheny 2-3, 3B, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K

I wish I could provide video, but there is none. Augusta built this brand spanking new ballpark and didn't install video..... in 2018..... wtf

John Gavin 5.0-5-1-2-2-7
Frank Rubio 2.0-1-0-0-0-3
Franklin Van Gurp 2.0-0-0-0-0-2

Some impressive pitching performances in Augusta have continued tonight. Gavin gave up his first ER of the season. Had 5 no-hitting innings last time out. He's a soft tosser, so he'll likely chew up the SAL League pretty easily. Local kid, loves the Bay Area. 2017 8th rounder.

Franklin Van Gurp has faced 25 batters this season and has retired 24 of them, the lone batter reaching via a walk. Effing impressive.2017 25th rounder.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 10-7 (6-8)

Alen Hanson 4-5, 2 2B, 3B, 2 R, 1 RBI, CS (1st). To reiterate, Hanson is doing his best to push Kelby.
Hector Sanchez 2-3, HR (1st), 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Austin Slater 2-4, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R, 1 K. Okay, so I should have just looked ahead one day. Looks like Slater is fine.
Ryder Jones 2-5, 2 RBI
Chris Shaw 0-4, 3 K

Dereck Rodriguez 5.0-8-3-3-1-3
Joan Gregorio 0.0-4-5-5-2-0. Yikes
Jose Valdez 2.0-1-0-0-0-5. Nice
Madison Younginer 1.0-2-2-2-1-0

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 6-1 (10-4)

Ryan Howard 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 CS (1)

Matt Gage 5.2-8-4-3-2-1

Wander Franco 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Jalen Miller 2-5, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Raffi Vizcaino 2.0-6-8-4-2-3
Michael Cederoth 3.0-0-0-0-3-4
Nolan Riggs 2.0-0-0-0-1-2
Rodolfo Martinez 0.2-1-5-0-4-1
Carlos Diaz 1.1-3-0-0-0-1

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON 6-1 (9-5)

Heliot Ramos 2-5, 1 R
Jacob Gonzalez 1-3, 2 RBI
Malique Ziegler 1-3, 2B, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS

Jose Marte 4.1-2-1-0-2-7
Peter Lannoo 3.2-0-0-0-0-3
Camilo Doval 1.0-2-0-0-0-2

Marte is hitting the mid 90s with his fastball. He has a really good curveball, but it wasn't working for him tonight. Has a lot of spin on his pitches, which is good. Raw, but one to keep an eye on.

Third straight scoreless appearance for Doval. Has 8 K's in 4.2 innings. Lowering his ERA from infinity, to 94.00, to 15.43.... progress. Has the most spin in the system.

AAA: Sacramento River Cats lost 4-3 (6-9)

Chase d'Arnaud 1-3, HR (3), 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB (2)
Eury Perez 2-4, 2B, 1 R

Tyler Beede 6.0-5-4-4-3-7
Will Smith 1.0-0-0-0-0-2
Tyler Rogers 1.0-0-0-0-1-1

Smith was hitting 93 with the fastball. He's really close. Giants will probably try him out back-to-back games here soon.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels WON 6-3 (11-4)

Dylan Davis 2-4, HR (3), 2B, 1 RBI, 2 R
Aramis Garcia 1-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 1 R
Ryan Howard 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

Garrett Williams 2.1-4-3-3-2-2
Dusten Knight 3.1-1-0-0-2-3
Mike Connolly 2.0-0-0-0-1-1
Caleb Simpson 1.0-0-0-0-0-1

Williams was fine, but lost control in the third inning. His pitch count started to climb, so they got him out of there.

A+: San Jose Giants WALKED-OFF 9-8 (9-7)

Heath Quinn 3-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 2 R, 1 error (2nd)
Bryce Johnson 2-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
Wander Franco 2-4, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 errors (4th & 5th)
Johneshwy Fargas 3-5, 2B, 1 R, 1 SB (2nd), 1 CS (1st)
Frandy De La Rosa 2-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 K

The Giants scored 5 runs in the 9th inning and won on a walkoff HBP. Bryce Johnson took the pain for the glory off the foot (hopefully he's okay)

Melvin Adon 4.0-7-5-5-2-3
Dylan Rheault 1.0-2-2-0-1-2
Connor Overton 3.0-0-0-0-1-3
Patrick Ruotolo 1.0-2-1-0-0-1

A: Augusta GreenJackets lost 5-4 (9-6)

Heliot Ramos 1-2, 2B, 1 R. He was lifted after he was hit in the leg, but it isn't expected to be serious. Will update.
Jean Angomas 1-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB

Joey Marciano 6.0-4-2-1-0-11
Eduardo Rivera 2.0-4-3-3-0-3

Marcanio was a 37th rounder in 2017. He's a 23 year old soft-tossing lefty, he'll chew up hitters in the SAL League. His curveball is a legit plus pitch though.

A+: San Jose Giants WALKED-OFF (again) 6-5 (10-7)

Bryce Johnson 4-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R
Jacob Heyward 2-5, 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 K
Sandro Fabian 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS (1st)
Gio Brusa 2-4, 2B, 1 R, 1 K

The Giants have 4 walk-offs in 8 games, and in all four they were trailing in the 9th. This time Heyward doubled in the winning run.

Logan Webb 3.0-1-0-0-0-2
DJ Myers 4.2-6-4-2-2-4
Rodolfo Martinez 1.1-2-1-1-1-1

Logan Webb has been pretty impressive. One run in 10 innings so far as he's building his arm strength back from T.J. surgery. Fastball is up to 97 and his curveball is a good offering in the 70s. Has a changeup too.

A: Augusta GreenJackets WON 5-4 (10-6)

Manuel Geraldo 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 K, 1 CS (3rd)
John Riley 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 K

The Jackets scored 3 runs in the top of the 9th to win.
