Horan has had a quiet year, but he has REALLY turned it on the last few weeks. Just last year he shot onto everyone's radar as one our better power-hitting OF prospects. Maybe he is salvaging his prospect-status with this late surge...

Villalona has come around, too. About six weeks ago, he was sub-.200 with no power. Now he is almost .300, and has homered six times in the last three weeks.

On June 25, he was hitting .143 with Richmond

He came to San Jose, and is hitting .299

Richmond .143/.180/.179

San Jose .299/.382/.563

AnVill is also 1.5 years over the average age of the Cal League. I agree he is more than just org depth, but he is no longer a prospect.

On Thursday, July 23rd the Augusta GreenJackets 48-48 (15-12) and the Greenville Drive 50-47 (12-15) faced off at Lake Olmstead Stadium for game two. With the 2014 San Francisco Giants World Trophy in the house, fans hoped that the GreenJackets would use some special World Series magic for a Thursday night victory. The GreenJackets after giving up a two run lead. Came back from one run down to win Thursday night's game with a score of four to three.

The GreenJackets posted a run in first two innings of play. Once again it was Johneshwy Fargas reeking havoc on the base paths in the first inning. Mike Broadway 1-0-0-0-0-1 (0.97)

San Francisco Giants outfielder Nori Aoki had the best game of his rehab assignment with Sacramento, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a run. One of his hits was a solid single to center field and the other was a slow roller to first that the speedy outfielder beat out for a base hit.

DJ Snelten was in the zone on Saturday night. For the third consecutive start Snelten managed to strike out seven batters. Tuesday was a complete debacle for the Giants and the farm system. Every team lost.

Wednesday, 7/29

Sacramento won 4-2
I went to the game, and Blackburn was impressive. He topped out at 91 mph, and his curveball was really breaking. He also hit a home run. Broadway struck out the side in the 9th, and he was topping out at 96. Very impressive.
Everth Cabrera 2-3, run, walk (.333) He was caught stealing and stole a base (the back end of a double steal). He played in CF tonight, and looked absolutely lost out there. Misplayed two balls into triples. He’s a career SS/INF, so not sure why he is in CF.
Kelby Tomlinson 1-3, RBI (.313)
Ryan Lollis 2-, RBI (.349)
Adam Duvall 1-4, run, homer (26), RBI (79)
Clayton Blackburn 1-2, solo homer (1)

S-K won 8-2
Richard Amion 2-4, run, double
C.J. Hinojosa 2-3, 2 runs, 2 doubles, 2 walks
Ronnie Jebavy 3-5, 2 runs, double, 2-run homer

Scott Price 2-5, RBI
Julio Pena 2-4, 2-run homer
Andrew Suarez 4-5-0-0-0-2 (1.74)
Nathanael Santiago 2-3-0-0-0-3 (W, 1-1)(H, 3)

DSL Giants won 4-1
Marco Guzman 2-5, run, RBI, triple
Mecky Coronado 1-3, RBI (.385)
Francisco Medina 2-4, walk
Beicker Mendoza 2-5, run, 2 doubles
Sandro Cabrera 6.1-2-0-0-0-9 (W, 4-2, 2.65)
Luis Amaya 1-1-1-0-1-1 (1.57)
Hengerber Medina 1.2-0-0-0-2-2 (S 3, 1.35)

Sandro Cabrera is now 2nd in the DSL in strikeouts with 62 in 54.1 IP. With just 19 walks he's maintained a 3:1 K:BB rate. Signed for $125K last October, the 20 year old RHP will be an interesting assignment decision next year.

Beicker Mendoza continues his hot stretch, as the 17 year old had a quarter of his season's total of doubles in this game. Over the last ten days, Mendoza is hitting .357/.379/.429, as his year is really trending in the right direction. Francisco Medina is also doing well lately, with a .317/.404/.366 over his last ten days. More importantly, his K:BB in that time is 7:4, an improvement from the season totals of 36:10. Though his power hasn't been as evident lately, the overall hitting line is improving.

Sacramento won 5-1
Kelby Tomlinson 2-4, run (.323)
Ryan Lollis 2-4, run, double (.352)
Mac Williamson 2-4, run, 2 RBI, double
Trevor Brown 1-2
Jarrett Parker 2-4, double, 3-run homer
Curtis Partch 4-2-1-1-1-7
Steven Okert 1-1-0-0-0-1 (4.50)
Brett Bochy 1-0-0-0-1-1 (3.35)
Erik Cordier 0.0-0-0-0-3-0
Josh Osich 2-1-0-0-0-4 (W, 1-0, 0.00)

Cordier walked the bases loaded in the 8th with no outs. Osich came in and struck out the side. Very impressive!

The River Cats used six different pitchers in the win, and although Partch's start was certainly impressive, left-hander Josh Osich's appearance may have edged his out for the best of the night. Osich entered the game in the top of the eighth in a bases-loaded, no-out situation and proceeded to strikeout out the side to get the River Cats out of the jam.

The left-hander mixed a 96-97 mph fastball with a devastating 90 mph slider and a disappearing changeup to keep Las Vegas off balance and flailing at the plate. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one more, to close out the game and picked up the win, his first, for his dominating effort.

Parker Propels River Cats, Take Series Win | Sacramento River Cats News

Richmond won 6-1
Myles Schroder 3-5, run
Rando Moreno 2-4, 2 runs
Austin Slater 3-4, run, RBI (.313)
Hunter Cole 1-3, run, RBI, 2 walks (.303)
Mitch Delfino 2-4, 2 RBI
Jackson Williams 1-4, RBI
Joe Biagini 1-1-1-1-0-1
Jose Casilla 3-3-0-0-1-4 (W, 3-5, 1.51)
Kyle Crick 1-1-0-0-1-3
Phil McCormick 1-0-0-0-1-1 (2.64)
Derek Law 1-1-0-0-0-0 (3.86)

Joe Biagini retired the side in order in the first but was removed from the game due to back discomfort in the second inning following Brock Peterson's triple to right field. The bullpen was forced into extensive work again, this time with Jose Cassila acting as the first line of defense. Casilla allowed the Peterson to score via a single from Xorge Carillo to cut the lead to 4-1. Casilla (3-5) threw a season-high 58 pitched through three innings to earn the win

Ray Black back in the Pen. He was in the rotation because he needed innings, but also they could control his workload. Part of his injury history was that he was unable to rebound very well pitching out of the Pen. So this is going to be big form him. If he gets over that hump, he could be pitching in SF by September.

I think Okert, Osich, Broadway, and Cordier are ahead of him in line for September call-ups.

I had forgotten about Dunning. He did a AZL rehab start last week, and today with San Jose. He may go next to RIchmond or to Sacramento. He had a cuppo last year with the Giants.

Ray Black is already on the 40-man, and he easily has the stuff to stick at the ML level. Giants want to use his bullets while they can.

Thanks for the reminder. There are some studly relievers in the Giants' system, aren't there?

Osich was nails tonight. Came in after Cordier walked three to load the bases with no outs, then Osich came in and struck out three in a row to preserve the lead. Impressive.
