Marrone came out Sunday and said that he has been given no assurances ..

If Doug Marrone were to be let go in Jacksonville, what are your thoughts on a possible HC spot with the Broncos ??

.. and SS, I remember that your son-in-law was on Marrone's staff back in Buffalo -- how would you feel about bringing Doug Marrone to coach the Broncos ??

I'm disappointed that when I woke up today and looked at the news, there was nothing about Vance being fired ..

Even though it would only be two meaningless games, I would have liked to see what Mike Sullivan could have done ..

I was no fan of Marrone in Buffalo .. too much stuff about him being a total ahole and unreasonable - but who knows what was true and what wasn;t ( SS, any input ?? )

All that does make sense considering that the Jags just fell apart ...

Personally, no way on Shanahan ... It's hard to imagine that Elway had seriously talked to Mike Shanahan, esp with Joe Ellis here .. Everything I have ever read has Ellis and Shanahan hating each other, and I don't see it much different between Elway and Shanahan either ..

But let's just say Elway did talk to Shanahan a year ago - what on earth would have made him choose Vance - who had one season as a DC and one disaster as HC - over Shanahan, who Elway has known since Biblical times ?? ...

Now, having said all that -

Bridges burned can be rebuilt .. a HC gig with the Broncos may be Mike Shanahan's only remaining shot .. and with the ownership question in disarray, who knows what might happen, and how familiarity might be a plus in a situation like we're in now ..

I've gotta say this : the fact that Vance was not canned at the bye, or, today tells me that Elway has someone - a big name - lined up for next year .... To not let Sullivan or Musgrave take over for a few games is saying that Elway has zero interest seeing what we have on-staff ...

I don't know that John Harbaugh would have agreed yet. He isn't sure if he will be available. He is under contract through 2019.

According to the report from Woody Paige, Elway and Shanahan were working on a deal last year. Shanahan reportedly wants back in the league but only as a coach. Apparently, Elway and Shanahan have patched things up in recent years. Joe Ellis stepped in and nixed any Shanahan deal. Also being reported is that Ellis doesn't get along with Shanahan and was the catalyst to talking Bowlen into firing him back in the day.

Most interesting in this report was that Kirk Cousins also met with Shanahan last year and also told Elway that he would sign with the Broncos if Mike returned as Head Coach.

According to Sports Talk Radio here in Denver, Woody Paige confirmed these reports through at least 5 credible sources close to or within the Broncos organization. Lastly, he reported that Kubiak was willing to consider being the OC under Shanahan, had they been able to put a deal together. Woody is reporting that the likelihood of Shanahan returning for next year is slim at best, due to the troubled relationship with Joe Ellis.

Harbaugh is really the only HC I want at this point. I might be persuaded on getting a college coach like the HC from Iowa State who has been tossed around, along with a few others.

But what is missing is leadership, gravitas, and a winning pedigree. Not too many of those show up. Getting Harbaugh would be akin to signing Manning, imo.

If John Harbaugh is the only coach you want and you want VJ gone that is a very small window to please you.

I am hoping this is the last exciting off season for a few years. Exciting offseasons are fun but it usually means that the team is underachieving (see the 2018 Broncos) or really bad. Elway needs to find the next coach that will lead the team for the better part of the next decade.

I agree, Harbaugh is the only coach worth getting. I don't think he's leaving Michigan though.

I think the Ravens still ultimately want to part with Him, since Ozzie is leaving and theyre blowing it up, so to speak. It sounds like he can be had for a price.
