San Francisco used three day-three selections to add depth at the cornerback position. The 49ers added North Carolina State Dontae Johnson in the fourth round and FAU’s Keith Reaser and SMU’s Kenneth Acker in the fifth and sixth rounds, respectively. General manager Trent Baalke commented on Friday night that this year’s cornerback class wasn’t as strong as it has been in years past. However, Baalke wasn’t against drafting cornerbacks if they were the best players on the draft board. Johnson is an especially intriguing prospect. The double-major at NC State declined a scholarship opportunity to play for Harbaugh at Stanford. Eric Reid, San Francisco’s Pro Bowl safety, also spurned Harbaugh as a high school recruit.

My bets are on Reaser being the guy! He's a 4.3 guy, good frame, good instincts, just wanna see him for a full game

I'm excited about the possibilities with him, but I don't think we see him until 2015.

I think he's definitely taken with the redshirt in mind.

On topic I've said it in a few topics already but I consider Donatell to one of the best guys in the NFL when it comes to coaching up DBs so if any of these guys have talented to be brought out I have confidence he can bring it out.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think any of these guys are ready to contribute right now.

Dontae's size brings intrigue to me...

Still wished we had got Desir though...

Yeah, that was one of the most puzzling things to me, how far he fell. I didn't see one mock that had him falling beyond the third.

If Dontae turns out to be a starting caliber CB, then we did okay. Our lack of starting caliber CB's is my main concern at this point.

Not very excited about any of the CBs we got, to be honest.

Nor am I. Johnson actually looks like he could potentially be a solid, Tarrell Brown caliber starting CB at some point though. I hope I'm underestimating 'em.

I have to agree. Who knows, maybe we eventually trade for one. It seems like they are banking on Chris Culliver returning. I can't think of any other reason that they would ignore our pressing need for quality CB's.

I agree I cant believe how far Desir fell. Something doesn't seem right. Either ESPN and most Experts were wrong or all 32 NFL teams were wrong. LOL

Get him a back of that prescription speed while you're at it!

so what was Johnson's "drawbacks"?

Stiff in the hips? Pursuit speed? IQ?

I read somewhere Mcshay perhaps that he needs to work on his press coverage skills and he might have to move inside to safety but he can develop into a solid starter or really good reserve.
