Reading the article, it seems most likely it was just a careless error on his part. Sitting relatively high up in his truck he didn't notice a sports car closer to the ground and cut him off.

Or wasn't really paying attention to where he was and said "Oh Shit here's my exit", and without regard to others tried to get over.
