This is a "let the records show" thread...I know 99% of this board didn't agree with letting CJ walk but seem okay now that we won the bidding war. Simple question, do you think Darvish will be a better pitcher than CJ Wilson? Or will he be a bust and we should've signed CJ and this will prove to be a huge mistake? Give simple answers, no politic'ing your way around it.

I'll go first...I'm confident that Darvish will not only prove to be a much better pitcher, he will probably win some Cy's while he's at it. Let the records show.

Darvish will be a better pitcher than CJ if he isn't already. CJ will never be a true #1 and I believe our offense will get to cj multiple times this season. There will be a battle between Darvish and holland for who will be the staff ace and both are capable.

Darvish will win 13-15 games this year at minimum and will only get better for the next few years.

If Yu can give the Rangers these stats I think the Rangers will be ecstatic.

34 223.1 206 16 7 1.19 .232 2.94

That is one heck of a stat line.

Personally, I don't see how Darvish exceeds those numbers this season. Maybe he does. Anyway, I didn't agree with signing CJ for 75 mil and I sure as heck don't agree with signing Darvish for 100-125 mil.

I am not convinced that Darvish is the better pitcher or will be in the future. Apparently the Rangers are convinced. I just don't see why Ranger fans love bagging on CJ. The guy was very good for his entire career here and then the Rangers did not want him back. The Angels did. Good for him. Lets move on.

I think that line is very doable for Darvish and I would not be surprised if he did hit those numbers.

We bag on CJ because he didn't perform in the postseason or against top tier opponents and he made some smart ass comment about how the rangers couldn't afford him since their tv deal hadn't come in.

The truth was they just didn't think he was worth the money. Hope the angels enjoy two more awful contracts.

Darvish isn't worth 100 million plus. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to MLB lineups.

Hard to say if he is or isn't. No one knows for sure yet. We'll see.

I think he will probably be the best pitcher to come over from Japan when all is said & done if he stays healthy. However, he's never pitched in Arlington during the Summer. That will be interesting. The one thing every pitcher the Rangers have has going for them is their lineup. The Rangers can flat out rake.

I think if Darvish performs close to CJ or better, they will be happy while picking up a guy around 6 years younger. I also think the Rangers expected CJ to not turn down an extra 25 Million and go with the Marlins, out of the west and AL. Now Darvish is a must sign.

Booby Valentine said Darvish is the 4th best pitcher in the world. He knows the Japanese system over there but I still think that was an odd statement to make.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him have a first year like cj's but with better postseason performances assuming Texas is in the postseason.

It gets pretty damn hot in Japan too. The heat won't be a factor for him.

Darvish will struggle his 1st year I think, just enough for many of the bandwaggoners to jump ship and pine for the days of CJ Wilson

Long term, I think he is better than CJ was by his age 30 season, its just a matter of what age he achieves it, and it might not be soon enough for some

Darvish has all the measurables. He can throw 4 or 5 pitches for strikes. The elevated mound should actually help him. However, he's never faced a major league lineup. The track record for pitchers from Japan is awful. I want to see him pitch over here before a make any true judgement on Darvish.

The question isn't specific enough for a bold statement, it just says, "do you think Darvish will be a better pitcher than CJ Wilson?" Thats a bit of ambiguity... better than CJ when?

At the same age? In his age 30 season? By next year? By his second year of starting? Or will Darvish be better than CJ next year?

If you mean do I think Darvish will be better this next year than CJ was this last year? Then the answer is NO, and its unreasonable to think he will be in his first acclimating himself to MLB

To say Lewis did it isn't fair as he had already had seasons of experience of ML hitters under his belt before going to Japan and then KNEW what he was doing wrong in advance and knew what he needed to fix in his game and how to adjust

Due to the fact that Darvish is hitting his prime and CJ will be entering the downside of his career, not exactly a fair comparison

There's no doubt that I'd rather have Darvish for the next 5 years

CJ is bound to have 2 or 3 years close to what he's been the last 2 years, which is pretty damn good btw, I feel he lives up to the contract, but thats me

I saw that and I don't put much stock in it. The kid is 25. Do you really think his peak season will be his first two seasons? I'm calling bullshit. That doesn't sound like a pitcher Nolan and company would spend 100 million for.
