I REALLY liked Smith as the Doctor. He expanded Tennants take on the doc beginning to really lose it after killing all the TLs and "exterminating" the Dallects (sp?).

This guy LOOKS like more of an CE-type. I liked CE, but I don't think that take would work right now.

However, I couldn't imagine MS working when he was cast, either, and he is now my second fave Doc (after PD), so who knows...

'Doctor Who': John Hurt To Play 'Dark Doctor' Who Falls 'Between McGann and Eccleston Incarnations' (SPOILER)

It's the huffington post, so take this with a grain of salt, but apparently Hurt is playing a past Doctor.

He apparently said: "There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor."

The odd thing is that Capaldi has been on Doctor Who already (he was in "The Fires of Pompeii"). I'm interested to see how this plays out as this could be a good contrast to Matt's Doctor. My favorite Doctor hand's down is David Tennant, however, I didn't pick up the series until the Eccleston Doctor.

We will find out in a couple months. There are a number of theories out there...

1) Zeroth Doctor (Pre-Hartnel)
2) Ninth Doctor (Pre-CE)
3) The Valeyard (conglomerate of all the evil of all the Doctors)
4) The last Doctor (11 was in the time vortex, so he knew his "future" at the time)

I tend to believe he is the Zeroth Doctor, personally.

CB appeared in a PD arc as well, and they just ignored that at the time as well.

Real life gets in the way sometimes. Personally, I am willing to ignore that kind of inconsistency.

I think Moffatt is wanting to take The Doctor in a slightly darker direction from the Tennant and Smith incarnations with X and XI. I think one of you mentioned that Capaldi's XII will be more akin to Eccleston's IX.... that makes me a little sad as I really enjoyed Tennant and Smith's quirks and comedic qualities, although Smith could be slightly over the top at times. Either way I'm excited as I think the franchise is in very good hands.

I compared PC to CE. But it is 100% based on looks since I am not familiar with PC as an actor.

Of course, I believe it was PC who said on the special that he will be VERY different from MS. I take that as being more serious and dark as opposed to light and crazy.

I wonder if MS and Moffat really did not get along, and that lead to MS walking.

During the McCoy special, Moffat pretty much sad flat out that he was not a fan of McCoy as the Doctor. I think MS could be best compared to McCoy, with strong CB influences.

If Moffat didn't like SM, it is not a huge leap to see him not liking MS.

There was one clip during the special yesterday where Moffatt talked about considering Capaldi for the 11th Doctor but changed his mind or shot it down in his own mind. This kind of gave me the notion that maybe he regretted the Smith selection this whole time.... just a thought I had yesterday, not based on anything else. Those comments of his just hit me that way.

I am hoping this is not his costume. However, he did say he liked CEs outfit (leather jacket, etc), so I don't think it will be far-fetched to think he will go rather bland.

The days of the clown-outfit are done. All the Nu-Whos have had pretty standard outfits. I kinda liked the craziness of the costumes of the old-whos. I guess that was just the Doc showing his youthfulness in his first millennium of life...

Anyone else a big Doctor Who fan? Just saw the 2nd trailer for The Day of The Doctor special on the 23rd. Ten and Eleven together.... its going to be fantastic.
