Till We Can't Be Beat. WON'T. BE. BEAT.
I'm from the McBride school of thought.
Stop the run first, make them one dimensional, then bring the heat to get sacks and create turnovers.
This bend but don't break shit drives me up a wall.
Shit Bo's strategy was great in the pass heavy big 12. Teams would throw on 1st and 2nd down every time and they'd be in 3rd and long, tee 'em up and get after it. Usually resulted in a sack a turnover or an incompletion.
We were pretty fucking good defensively up until we had to start defending real running teams in consecutive weeks.
Bo should have known to start recruiting a different kind of player immediately as soon as we got into the B1G, but I don't fault him for being confident about his system.
I don't think what he was doing really changed much from what he did at LSU in a pretty run heavy SEC.
This is where it gets complicated and kids like Jed fail to understand what's really going on. His first 2 recruiting classes FUCKING. SUCKED. Specifically his 2008 one though. That was as bad as you are gonna see under Bo. I made a thread chronicling all of the misses in that year and it read like a... well I don't know what it read like, but it was really fuckin' bad.
He's finally got his shit together in the last 2-3 years recruiting wise. I think he might finally have the athletes who are capable of doing what he is asking of them again.
