Do you go to the range before you hit the course and play?

I rarely hit a range before playing, unless the course has a GRASS range. Hitting off of a mat doesn't seem to help me in the least.

If there is a range at the course, i'll hit balls. If not....unless its an outing or something i'll just warm up around the 1st tee.

I also like about 5-10 minutes on the practice green.....i'll hit 99% of the putts inside of 5 feet and end with a couple LONG ones to try and get the speed down.

Nor should it.....can't hit down on the ball if ya can't take a divot.

Also on the practice green.....seeing as they are sometimes crowded, don't putt towards a hole.

Hit a putt.....and then try and hit the same exact putt. Getting a feel for your stroke is more important than getting a feel for a green you wont putt on the course.

Thank you. I will try that. I usually only looked from behind my ball or in front of it.

Do you usually walk or ride? Walking up to the green can give you a good general sense of the slopes.

Sometimes I hit the range. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I stripe it off the 1st tee. Sometimes I don't. There's no correlation for me.

walk. Unless it's a course in NH that my brother in law plays at since it's way to long to walk, plus the cart is included. IF it's a course that "recommends" carts, I usually do it because my knee is messed up.

Almost always. But never as a practice session, only as a warm up. Practice sessions for me are for days that I don't play golf.

Mats can give you a false sense of actual ability. I like grass :smokin:

I won't practice on mats unless all the shots I'm working on are shots off of a tee.

90% of courses here...probably 80% of recreational golfers would never finished if they walked all 18, just way too much elevation change.

Still, your point is well taken...I typically walk it in from my approach shot a good bit of the time from 125 in...sometimes to blow off steam from a bad shot, but you do get a better lay of the land by walking to the ball on the green or even around the green.

Sometimes, not often though. Feel like the range is much easier and the ball flies off those tees and the green, not a fan of them. Gives me false hope.

Now stretching out before playing is always a good idea, for my age anyways.

yeah I made that mistake once... Didn't do any stretching or take any tylennol and or advil before the round and i screwed up my back and was basically hunched over for a week

I only hit balls before a couple times out of the year as well. This is gonna sound weird, but it makes me play worse.

But putting and chipping will always help get a feel for the speed and touch for the greens

This is it for me exactly and I never hit balls before a round anymore. It takes a couple of holes for the swing to loosen up, but the only cost is a little distance until I'm loose.

Most of the time unless I'm running late. Just by making a few adjustments after seeing some ball flight I can easily save me 2-3 strokes during my round. I'll work on a little putting beforehand too but for 5-10 minutes tops.
