Do you go to the range before you hit the course and play?

Simple question: "Before you play a round of golf, do you hit the driving range and warm up?"

Sadly I say i do that maybe once or twice a year before a round. Usually I just go out there and try to whack it off the tee on the first hole.

Most of the time I do, and I tend to play a little better earlier in the round, but the main thing for me is to be loose and hit some putts.

See that's my problem I can never play a round loose. Especially on the first tee. Even if no one is around I always feel like I have 1,000 eyes watching me. It's even worse when my old HS golf coach is watching

Yeah, the 1st tee ball, especially on the #1 tee is always a little nervy, but I tend to do okay there...it's getting the speed of the greens that kills me...just last week...1st tee, striped down the middle and only a SW in...hit the green and 3 jacked....I never really did find the speed...six 3 putts all told.

That bothers me more than spraying...a lot more.

I only hit balls before a couple times out of the year as well. This is gonna sound weird, but it makes me play worse.

But putting and chipping will always help get a feel for the speed and touch for the greens

A golf course with a range is a luxury for me if I don't want to drive 75 miles.

It's just as well, my tee times are always before 6:45 ..not much time to hit balls.

If there is a range on the course, I always like to hit at least a dozen or so for a warm up. Better to blow a couple of shots on the range than the first hole or two.

I usually hit a small bucket on the range although I don't usually have a problem on the first tee for some reason. if time is a problem I will Putt a few on the practice. I've played most of the courses I regularly play on often so I usually don't have a problem with reads, maybe over read the break typically

Similar off the tee for me.

Last week I played a course I've played before, but they have all new greens now...much, much faster, and nearly every one has a tier, shelf, or big hump and I was on the wrong tier quite often...I could never get the speed right...I'm anxious to go back for some type of redemption...SIX 3 jacks...I'm not a good player (13 index), but
I'm not that bad a putter normally.

Among the things I'd do if I lived my dream of owning a golf course would be to have a hitting net not far from the first tee. There's commonly not enough time to hit the range but a few swipes into a net would reduce the first tee jitters quite a bit. I think most courses would fear a hit on their range revenue but I don't believe it would make a squat bit of difference.

not saying you have to have a course have a driving range, just one in general

Not generally.

The less I play, the better I play. The more I play, the worse I get.

This, exactly. The more balls I hit throughout the day, the worse it gets.

Good piece of advise: Make sure you look at the putt from the side angle. That will more easily show you, imo, if you are looking uphill or downhill. A lot of people have difficulty just reading it from directly behind the ball. Just change your vantage point.

Thank you. I will try that. I usually only looked from behind my ball or in front of it.

Depends on how my swing feels.
If I feel loose I avoid the range. Nothing worse than going to the range when your playing well and 1 bad swing just screws everything up.

Before I play...putting green ONLY to get a sense of the speed of the greens that day...

I alway said, "Why waste good shots on a practice range before play?"

Now stretching out before playing is always a good idea, for my age anyways.
