After a lengthy day of meetings with federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh, the NHL and NHL Players’ Association wrapped up talks for the day shortly after 10:30 p.m. tonight.

Mediation is scheduled to resume at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Beckenbaugh got to work around 10 a.m. this morning at the Manhattan hotel the players’ union is using as its base of operations and went back and forth between the parties. The sides were never in the same building today and have not held a full-scale negotiating session the last two days.

Both sides apparently have expressed they have some room to move on the open issues, but that hasn’t been enough so far to break the logjam and they are now less than a week away from the remainder of the season being canceled. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has stated games would have to begin on Jan. 19 on a 48-game schedule and that a deal would have to be finalized by Jan. 11 so training camps could open the next day.

The players appear to be waiting until they complete their second vote to authorize the union’s executive board to file a disclaimer of interest. That vote, which began Thursday, is scheduled to conclude at 6 p.m. today.

This would honestly be both awesome/cool and frightening. Guys could basically choose who to play with, etc. Some guys may stay loyal, but plenty may not. It's not about "who has the best team" it's purely based on the coaching staff, facilities, area, etc.

Since my team only has 1 player that really matters, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it. I mean Nabokov, Streit & Visnovsky are all going to be UFA's at the end of the year anyway. Keep Tavares & still have 53.5M to spend with a 60M cap. Have fun Garth:
