I know this will never fly, but why don't they eliminate the cap floor or set it substantially lower so that teams aren't forced to spend money that they don't have? This requirement that the cap floor is set to be $16 million less than the cap ceiling was put in to try to create parity, but it's also one of the reasons why we have a lockout (as Herr Bettman has said countless times, we simply feel we are spending too much money on player salaries).

Also, there needs to be more control on ticket pricing throughout the league. Sure, everybody likes to see full buildings, but it's not doing much for the league when 5,000 tickets are freebies.

if they cant afford to stay above the cap floor and be profitable, they need to be moved or contracted. forcing a business in a market that cant support it is a recipe for disaster and is what happens when you have a lawyer trying to run a business.

Exactly - Basically, we can have a 30 team league where players will have to take another substantial salary haircut, or players will get their money (or at least most of it) and we'll continue on with a 24 team league.

As surgeons often say, sometimes you have to cut in order to cure.

yep.. might 'hurt the game' in terms of reputation, but the elimination of some of the teams that bleed money will probably cover it up by mid-year 1, then it's pure, un-adulterated, growth from there. just sack up and do what needs to be done. in 5-10 years you can expand back to 30 by adding teams in cities that actually care about hockey.

Could the NHL's reputation and image sink any lower than it currently is? Seriously, it's a comedic punch line these days.

Did you ever figure out who this was Puck? Sounds like a Canuck now. :heh:

the only one I have found that matches his salary clue exactly was Mike Ribiero, and his Bruin hate would fit with his years in Montreal, but I refuse to believe that Ribiero has a sense of humour.
there's someone on another forum who swears up and down that it is Dainus Zubrus (again the Habs connection), but this really doesn't sound like a Lithuanian.

I've come to the conclusion that it's just some fan fiction. still funny as hell though.
We can narrow it down if someone comes back to camp (eventually) in Buffy-the-wonder-slug shape.

Thanks Puck. I can remember you (from awhile back) thinking that you were close to figuring it out, but then I couldn't find that thread anymore.

As you know better than I, sometimes the biggest pricks on the ice can be pretty cool/funny off of it.....but I'm with you, I still think Ratface is to much of a prick to be this cool/funny.

I believe that the floor does a couple of other things as well: it makes the players feel like the are getting more money. This is false because they got 57% no matter what. What it really does it keeps the teams that are spending more from not paying too much more. If team A is paying 50 mil and team B is paying 25 mil and after the money is calculated it turns out the players are owed 100 mil team A would pay 66.6 mil total and team b 33.3.

Ok as far as free tickets. I think it is better to get them to a game then to play to an empty arena. Maybe they buy a shirt or a beer and maybe they like the game enough to buy a ticket later in life.

I can see that, the writing certainly has a smug smirky air to it.

/Don Taylor seems convinced that strombone1 is Luongo, he basically said so on Connected last night. I'm not so sure myself.
