Just read the article on Jacobs...it's what was being hinted at from the beginning. It was guys like Jacobs and Snider that were controlling everything. Combine that information with the amount of control Bettman is allowed to have (only needs 8 votes to move forward) and the fact that Bettman is essentially an owner, and you have a mess. I don't understand why it's okay that the commish of a league is owning a team in this moment. Talk about influencing your decisions.

please stop throwing snider in there. he's got tons of power, true, but based on EVERYTHING written in the past 2-3 weeks, he's working harder than anyone to get hockey back, not 'win for bettman'.. to the point where he was credited for proposal that brought about the marathon sessions a couple weeks ago

Flames owner Murray Edwards (leader of the Flames ownership group) has been cast as one of the hawk owners as well.

Nice that he's had a change of heart, but his attitude was very instrumental in getting us here. He might be working hard to get it back now, but he was certainly a catalyst at the outset to get us where we are.

So three teams make 84% of the revenue? Interesting.

Wonder where those three teams stand.

Am told by 2 NHL sources that #Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs forced employees to pay tax on 2011 Stanley Cup rings. About $7K per ring. Some support staff couldn't afford the tax up front, so players stepped up and covered the cost so they could get rings too.

What a P.O.S this guy is. Total cheepskate. The only reason the Bruins became relevant again is because there was a cap so he couldn't be as cheap as he wanted to be.

Doesn't Jacobs live in Buffalo? Maybe we could get Boss to do some reconnaissance work.

Sekeres also likes to always point out the fact that when Jacobs built TD Garden ... he skimped on elevators to save on costs ... there are only 2 in the arena if I remember correctly and the staff of Jacobs owned Sportservice (the arena catering/concession company) has to always use these elevators to shuttle food around in carts while the fans try and squeeze into the elevators next to them

As a beancounter, that is just fundamentally sound business practice. What I bet most of these people didn't know is the sales tax (presumably in MA) is deductable on their state income tax returns. Mr. Jacobs knew this and wanted to pass this tax benefit off to the staff - hate the system and not the owner.

If this were a Monopoly game, Jacobs would be the banker, Jacobs would own the luxury tax and income tax spaces, the Bruins which are the equivalent of a green property, say Pacific Ave, and all the railroads and utilities. He also holds all the get out of jail free cards and free parking doesn't exist.

hah!

@DownGoesBrown
Would love to to know if Tim Thomas was one of the players in favor of a handout to Bruin employees who couldn't afford to pay their taxes.

I think if there's one owner that wants hockey as much as anyone it's Snider. This guy wants to win in the worst way. He knows he's got a very good hockey team. I realize business is business, but the bottom line for Ed Snider is he wants to bring the Stanley Cup back to Philly in a bad way. I don't think he would hold up negotiations one bit.

Basically this. He is 79 (and just got engaged to a 45 year old, FWIW :D) and wants one more Cup before he passes on. He allegedly has already has enough of this lockout, yet he is still the bad guy... #TeamOwners :)
