They can't bring this crap up for a vote every year. They did it twice and it failed twice. There should be a rule like a three strikes and you're out rule or something. It gets annoying
They'll bring it up again especially once a player is hurt from it.

It's not only the tush push. I've been saying for years when forward progress is stopped blow the whistle like they used to do. This is what was proposed. Let's say it's 3rd and 7. They throw a swing pass to the back who is stopped 2 yards short. They allow the play to continue and fat guys push the pile 3 yards and they get a first down. I'd like someone to explain to me how this is in any way fair to the defense who made the stop.

That’s at the discretion of the officials. If as you say forward progress is stopped then the whistle should be blown. That was true in 2004 before the rule change and that’s true today with the current rules. Officials don’t extend plays now because of that rule. Stopping forward progress is still the same in every case. It’s always been the referee’s discretion.

I have no problem with the Tush Push.

But if you are going to keep allowing it, you should allow the defense to do the same. LB's should be able to push their DL.

This is exactly my issue and it's worse when the Lineman aren't even engaged but come running into the pile from 5 or 10 yards away and hit people and this is where the injuries come in. I don't really have a problem when they were already engaged and just keep blocking. I don't recall anyone getting injured on a "Tush Push". I know people have corrected me on here before and said it's not just about the instant injury during the play, but more the cumulative effect of heads banging, so I yielded on that. But I just don't like things that aren't "Football". How is two 330lbs OL with a 10 yard sprint running into and pushing a 225lbs RB who is stood up and trying to be tackled by two 215lbs DBs something we want to see? I was for banning the whole thing because of this mostly, but would have been happy if they banned the downfield stuff you mentioned and left the dumb tush push type stuff. Honestly, I think too big a deal has been made of it at this point. Just let it go (not you, the media). It passed the vote and that's that. Who cares

Ironically for Washington fans, I bet you if you kept going offsides in the NFC Championship game and the refs awarded the TD instead of the Eagles running it in, it would have been banned because that would have been a real black eye for the NFL.

No as you said the league changed how they officiate this play. Prior to 2004 they blew the whistle when forward progress had stopped and I can't think of too many examples where the whistle blew prematurely. Now they simply allow the play to continue when it should be over allowing players to shove the ball to a first down. Why are you claiming it's the same now than it was prior to 2004 when that is simply not true?

Just officiate it the way they used to do it is my argument.

No I didn’t. I said they changed a rule. You’re the guy saying the league changed their criteria for when forward progress is stopped. It’s always been consistent. If a runner is pushed back or if he is in a stalemate the whistle blows.

What you’re saying isn’t true. It’s some perception you’ve created. The standard for forward progress being stopped has always been at the discretion of the official watching the play deeming whether or not forward progress has stopped.
Just officiate it the way they used to do it is my argument.
They are. What’s out of joint is your perception.

Don't want teams to run the play? Just go LT on the QB in the scrum...Probably won't do that with a broken finger...or once his nuts get twisted off....lol

(I kid, of course...but, I'm also not saying I wouldn't considering it myself...)
