I'm not saying one way is right and the other is wrong. I think if you pass on first down it keeps the defense on its heels. Maybe I'm wrong. Also, we don't have that sledge hammer back this yr
I agree, there is no right or wrong way. My point is solely based on what I would like to see the team do. Until JG starts texting me for my opinion during the games it remains just that!!!

I wish you were the owner, it would be like when Steinbrenner used to call the dugout all pissed off during the middle of games telling the coaches to pull a pitcher...

That's funny. I have always trusted GArrett , so I'm normally in his corner. Now JOe Madden, for the Cubs, pisses me off about 4 times a week. I love getting into it with the Cubs beat writer about him. To that guy Maddon is to him as Romo is to me. We have had a few battles

I'm pretty sure that was Jerry's MO. I only say was because I think he has changed his meddling ways, at least a little.

truth may be that it will be 3/4 of the season. It's his foot and those can be rather important. Roddy White said he and Jones talked about it and said it will be playoff time B4 Dez is 100%. That was with Dez not rushing it, which seems unlikely knowing Dez. All of us heel differently...so who knows, but I wouldn't expect him back before Thanksgiving at best.

Read an article today that said Dez's holdout during camp help Dallas a lot with this situation. The other receivers got more reps in the offense they normally wouldn't have gotten had Dez not held out. Said although Dez's injury is bad news for Dallas, they are very prepared. We shall see, but I think this team will be fine.

Still waiting for him to go on IR with intent to return in 8 weeks. For some reason they aren't doing. In his mind he is coming back in 4 weeks. Odd that GArrett said the normal time frame is 4-6 weeks.

I just think if they really thought it would be longer, a bigger trade would be in the works unless they really believe Williams is that good.

Not sure how holding out caused a broken bone. Besides it was more about his hammy that kept him from practicing.

The time they held Julio out for the year was also the 2nd time Julio had that injury. First time was in college, which he most likely had the same surgery Dez just had. It was a little different the second time around.
It's possible Dez is out until December. I'd imagine they will take it slow b/c we have playoff aspirations and will need him then (and possibly the end of the season). If we stand 5-7 come December - I bet we'll shut him down for the year. I don't think we'll go 4-7 without him, but anything can happen.

I agree the Cowboys record will dictate how soon Dez comes back or if at all.....

Yeah. To me the hold out was very evident. I'm sure it had something to do with the hammy problem, so the combination held him back. You could see he didn't look the same during the game. He needed an IV. Even a guy in as great of shape as Dez isn't in Football shape. But a hold out doesn't soften your bones. I guess it's possible he was dragging it and that is when you get injuries, so there could be a correlation.

Bump, did he come back too early? Should he have had surgery 3 weeks ago?

Dez Bryant will have foot and ankle surgery, season is officially over

When Dez Bryant broke his foot in Week 1, a lot of people -- including those in the medical profession and players who had suffered similar injuries -- thought it was ambitious to think he'd be back this season, let alone seven weeks after surgery.

But Bryant took the field in Week 8 ... and he looked nothing like one of the NFL's best receivers -- and understandably so. Also understandable: with one game left, Bryant is shutting it down for the year. Cowboyscoach Jason Garrett announced on Wednesday that Bryant was headed to injured reserve and he will have surgery on his ankle and his foot.

Here's a question: So Bryant's now having surgery on the same foot -- and now the ankle -- that he was hobbling around on for the last few months? Yes technically, the Cowboys weren't out of the playoff race, but come on, they've been out of the playoff race since Tony Romo went down for the second time.

Meanwhile, Bryant's final numbers for 2015 are all career lows: 9 games, 31 receptions for 401 yards (44.6 YPG) and 3 touchdowns. He ranks 82nd in total value, among all wideouts, according to Football Outsiders -- also a career low. In 2014, Bryant ranked 5th in the same metric.

Back in September, shortly after Bryant broke his foot, Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, who in 2011 had foot surgery similar to Bryant's, cautioned the Cowboys star not to rush his comeback.

“With Dez, he's just going to have to take time and get healed up properly,” Jones said at the time. “You don't want to rush it and then it sets you back. If you come back too early, then it can put you back again. So, my thing to Dez is, just get fully healthy and then you can go out there and help your teammates."

Jones said he re-injured that foot in 2013 and missed the final 11 games of the season.

“It was very difficult for me, but I understood the bigger picture,” Jones admitted. “The next year I didn't want to be going through the same thing again, and I've been back a year now and going into this year I haven't had a foot injury or problem at all with my foot.”

It's been a forgettable season for Dez Bryant and the Cowboys.

Dez probably came back to early. He certainly was not playing at the level he had over the past 3 seasons. Let's hope the surgery gets him back to 100%. I say draft Tyler Boyd in 2nd or 3rd round.

Was concerned something like this might happen. I am certainly no doctor, but injuries like this if not properly healed before being put through stress again can have a negative systemic effect on other body parts. In this case it was the ankle. Perhaps the bone in his foot not being fully healed allowed other bones connected to the broken bone to get out of proper alignment? Thus causing the ankle issues.

Sometimes is as simple as walking or running differently to ease the pain on the injured portion of the foot that impacts another portion and causes a second injury
