While I thought it was absolutely fan service, there should have been a more specific example of Dexter's gf being an actual badass, so that Angel could make the Deb comparison.

It's been good so far, so let's see how they finish up.
Always liked Clancy Brown going back to Shawshank.
Police chief should have cussed gim out when he was slow to drop the pickup attempt. Far better reason to think of Deb at that point.

Watched the first episode of New Blood and I'm diggin it... Been so long since I rewatched the original series, but I don't quite recall him being so fluid with conversation with people as he was in this new show. But there's been 10 years or so and he definitely got better at conversation as the seasons went along.

Feel like I should go back & watch the last season of the original series just to reorient myself. I remember the storm & his sister, and all that... Just need some dots to connect better

I am slowly rewatching the original run now (they just revealed who the Ice Truck Killer is, but haven’t revealed yet who he REALLY is). He is definitely awkward in all his interactions.

However, I think his relationships with Rita, Deb, Harrison and Hannah all helped him enhance his abilities to fit in and hide his true self. And, as you have stated, it has been about 10 years since he left Miami and living a slower lifestyle probably helps him act more cheery and ”natural”.

That whole scene with her and Angel was pretty contrived and forced, but it pushes the story where it needs to go.

Contrived, awkward, very poorly executed. But necessary for the story.

At the end of the day, though, just REALLY bad writing.

Just off the top of my head, here is a better scenario for getting the the needed point using Angel…

Angela asks Angel some specific questions at the conference, after his presentation. She asks him for advice on the missing girls, and Angel brings up all the serial killers Miami had 10-15 years ago. He talks about the Ice Truck, but that involved prostitutes. Trinity was over a long period of time, but also only happened in batches. Maybe Angela asks about the Bay Harbor Killer, and that stops Angel in his tracks since he lost 2 coworkers during that investigation. That would get Angel thinking about Deb and Dex. Maybe he pulls out a file from his bag or brings up a file on his computer That might have Dex’s picture on it. Or some other obvious clue is dropped that causes Angela to investigate Jim. That at least makes makes Angela and Angel’s interaction more natural and brings Dex into the convo more naturaly.

Obviously that can be fine tuned, but that quick, off the top of my head brainstorm is better than how they did it.

Yea, the writing and the acting have not been great. I've been mostly overlooking that as well as some of the plot holes. The guy who plays the cop isn't very good either and Dexter and the chief don't act at all like a couple. But I'm still enjoying it. His son and Kurt are going to be the heart of it going forward and they're both decent actors and compelling characters.

I was intending on waiting to binge this. But I caved and decided to watch it ”real time” instead.

so far, it is better than the last few seasons of the original run, but not as engrossing as the first couple seasons.

the timeframe doesn’t match (Harrison is what, 15?). I think that is adding a few years to Dexter’s life as “Jim Lindsey”. They aren’t mentioning actual dates, so I guess that is OK.

I bailed on the original for the last couple of seasons.

Likely won't watch this iteration either.

You want to see an on-screen couple with absolutely zero chemistry? Try Deeks and Kenzi on NCIS: LA. In real life, they are in-laws (the actress who plays Kenzi is married to the brother of the actor who plays Deeks). They banter, but never show ANY affection. They don’t hold hands, they don’t snuggle…. I think they pecked each on the lips once a season or two back.

I'm still into it, but from what I've seen you won't be missing much. It's very uneven.
Imho, the new stuff is better than the train wreck of the last 2-3 seasons of the original run, but not as good as the first 2-3 seasons.

It was enough to put me off completely, like sandwhich meat gone green...
Fair enough. IMHO, this is worth watching, but at the end of the day, you won’t be missing out on much if you skip it.

I am doing a rewatch of the original run. I am about 1/2 way through S2. The pacing of the original was much better, and Dexter’s awkwardness was key to everything. New-Dex is too well socially adjusted. I know I defended that up thread, and I still stand behind my “excuses”, but I think the story was better with him being awkward.

And Deb being a completely confrontational Passenger is less entertaining than either Dexter being his own Passenger or Harry acting as the Passenger in later seasons. Though I guess it kinda makes sense since the “real” Harry was much more outwardly supportive of Dex than Deb ever was, so a confrontational Deb/Passenger probably makes sense.

Pretty stoked for the finale.

Really good opportunity to completely offset the brutal original ending.

These 9 eps have been really solid

My prob is that this small town cop is making INSANE connections at every step to figure out who “Jim” is. The convo with Batista was ridiculous, now she finds the needle marks that the FBI wasn’t able to find? Granted, Dex destroyed the bodies in the tent pretty fast, but the FBI still had multiple days to study the bodies.

Oh ya, her connecting the dots takes a standard tv suspension of belief no doubt.

I just think overall the pacing and plotting of this is far better than the later seasons and on par with a lot of the earlier stuff.

Even peak dexter still had some things being a little too convenient. I can overlook it when the storyline isn’t a complete nonsense disaster.

I think I would probably rate the seasons like this (loosely)…

1 - S1 (Ice Truck Killer)
2 - S2 (Bay Harbor Butcher)
3 - S4 (Trinity)
4 - S9 (Jim Lindsey)
5 - S3 (Prado)
6 - S7 (Hannah/Russian mob)
7 - S8 (Vogel/Brain Surgeon)
8 - S5 (Lumen/Oilcan Killer)
9 - S6 (DDK)
