Manley is STILL butthurt over that play? C'mon man, that happened like 35 yrs ago. Walsh holding members of the team accountable for their specific role in a particular play is both brilliant and crucial to the success of the play. He coached to the play not the person. If Walsh really wanted Manley out of the game, he would have told his agile OL to deliver crack back blocks ALL GAME LONG until they snapped his leg.

I know right? Whats up with these old players and coaches trolling Bill Walsh? Parcells tried it a year or two ago too. They need to stop being butthurt that the 49ers beat them, that Walsh beat them.

Who the fuck cares? This is one of the most overblown stories I've ever seen.

You mean coaches want their players to hit somebody as hard as they can? No way!

Clyde, the point is that there were incentives to injure guys and put them out of the game, not just hit them hard, but cause an injury. Surely you saw the clips of how they twisted Peyton's head around well after he was down.....that kind of stuff is just demented.

Anyway, just about everyone in their right mind is pretty disgusted by that stuff. Its a ridiculous caveman mentality.

Incentives are nothing more than competition. It's not like everyone is going out of their way on every play to break someones arm or leg.

Did the Saints get penalized on defense more than any other team? How many illegal hits did they make?

Are you their lawyer by any chance? Even their coach and GM didn't go this far trying to defend it.

Bounty thing would not have been a big deal during the Walsh era anyway. The NFL was not as concerned over player safety and rules back then allowed it to be a more violent game.

It's a big deal today because the league has been pushing for player safety and adapting it's rule book for it. It shows clearly at least on the team level that not everyone cares about safety, and that is a huge problem for a league trying to promote it to the public.

I'm not going to surprised at all if the Saints lose a few draft picks and Williams gets a year suspension. I don't see the NFL just sweeping this under the rug or giving them a slap on the wrist. They will hand out a stiff maybe even harsh punishment to show they are serious about putting an end to this.

Eric Byrnes was saying last night that its things like this that make the NFL have the weakest players' union of all the sports. The players just don't have each others' backs.

He can form a verbal sentence but he can't read a written one.....dude's illiterate. At least that's what he admitted back in the 80's....he might have learned since then or just smoked more rock.
