Jordan Zimmermann pitched four scoreless innings for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday at Norfolk, Va. He allowed four hits, struck out two and did not walk a batter.

But Zimmermann only threw 50 pitches, suggesting he is likely to make another rehab start before being activated. Ausmus has said that option is still up in the air, and could depend on how Zimmermann feels the day after his start.

The other decision concerns what to do with Daniel Norris, who didn't pitch as well in his second rehab start on Saturday. Norris allowed five earned runs on five hits, walking three, in 4 2/3 innings at Norfolk.

Weak. You would have bashed Ausmus no matter who he put in. If he put in K-Rod and he lost, people would have yelled (just like a few days ago)...never put in your closer in a non-save situation.

Agreed.

I would not have put in F-Rod in a non-save situation. I made that point last Wednesday, and I will stick by it. Justin Wilson pitched earlier in the day (giving up the walk-off run). Why run him out there again? We saw how well that worked for the Sox' Robinson. Alex Wilson and Shane Greene pitched the night before.

The biggest problem for Ausums is that the Tigers bullpen number is 1-800-WE-R-CRAP. He doesn't have many reliable arms to choose from. That's on Al Avila, and Dombrowski before him. If there were more reliable arms in Toledo, I'm sure we would see them in a Tiger uniform.

Chapman too Cubs. A lot of good relief pitchers on the market....we won't see any of them. Luckily we have Buck Farmer, Bobby Parnell, Blaine Hardy, Logan Kensing, and Warwick Saupold waiting in the wings to help out.

I would deal top prospects for a reliever.

Id trade Moya though. Cuz he blows.

I don't think the Yankees are selling as much as they're just discarding. I'm pretty much with Doug on those island commies.

EXACTLY my point. The other pitchers on the Tigers 40-man roster are (drumroll, please):

Angel Nesbitt (6.53 ERA between Erie and Toledo)
Blaine Hardy (2.18 minor league ERA this year, but 5.84 during his brief 2016 stint in Detroit)
Jeff Farrell (4.76 ERA in the minors, was injured earlier and has only pitched 11.1 innings)
Jairo Labourt (5.80 ERA with Lakeland; can't throw strikes -- 7.9 BB/9)
Bobby Parnell (3.67 ERA in Toledo, but 6.75 in his brief stint in Detroit)
Warwick Saupold (3.80 ERA in the minors, 10.80 with Detroit, coming off an injury)
Drew Verhagen (60-day DL)

Logan Kensing is no longer on the 40-man. He's a 34-year old retread who reached his ceiling (and not a very high one) some years ago.

Some interest in seeing Joe Jimenez brought up (1.22 ERA between Lakeland & Erie), but he is not on the 40-man, is 21 years old, and hasn't pitched above AA.

So -- NOW does everyone complaining about "Why is Bruce Rondon or [name here] still on the roster" see the problem?

Tigers have not scored more than 4 runs in their last 14 games. They need to average closer to 6 with their pitching staff. I see Tigers have Aviles, McCann, and Romine batting 7,8,9. That will help. :)

Verlander has a 1.60 ERA in five starts this month.

Same crap every year......Maybe he needs to start warming up two months before spring training.....Give it a try Justin, can't hurt.

Cause I don't like Little Ceasars Pizza is my guess......They don't want a guy that speaks his mind, and when you make good money you just shut up do your job and make your salary.....I'm not that guy, if it's fucked up my boss is going to hear about it.

Dude behind me asked if KRod had eight outs in him. Lol

Glad they didn't lift Papi for a pinch runner after he singled of the monster. The station to station was a big help.

Over the last year of baseball (starting July 24, 2015), Verlander has these numbers:

15-11 | 237.2 IP | 185 H | 59 BB | 235 K | 3.07 ERA | 1.03 WHIP

They won 7-5 in Chicago last Friday, so I'm not sure where you got your numbers. Still, it's now only 1 game in the last 15 with more than 4 runs scored for the vaunted Tiger offense. It's really amazing they've stayed only 5.5 back of the Indians with that kind of production and a shaky pitching staff.

BOSTON -- Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez is one stop closer to return.

Out since June 17 with an elbow fracture, Martinez will begin a rehabilitation assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo. The Mud Hens are in Durham, N.C., this week before returning home Friday.

STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
RHP Mike Pelfrey (3-9, 4.78 ERA)

Boston Red Sox
RHP Steven Wright (12-5, 2.67 ERA

Boston's Steven Wright leads qualifying American League starting pitchers in ERA. He's 7-1 at Fenway Park this season, throwing his knuckleball more than 70 percent of the time.

--Detroit's Mike Pelfrey gave up just one run in five-plus innings last time out, a victory over the White Sox. He'd lost his two previous starts.
