Ugh... Zimmermann is getting pasted. The Blue Jays hitters are looking like themselves again. One game too early.

All 7 runs of the game so far have scored on home runs. Brad Radke would be proud.

Actually there are WAY too many guys on teams that are bad hitters. I think that is part of the reason teams are going more and more to 13 player pitching staffs. In the AL - a backup catcher and 2 utility players. If one can hit, you are lucky. (Hopefully your DH can play somewhere) In the NL - you get four, but you have to have at least two who have a chance to hit in a pinch hitting role.

It appears that the multi-positional player is increasing in value, even if his hitting is only marginal at best. I'd bet Romine and Aviles would find jobs quickly if we released them
I'm willing to test that theory with Aviles.

He brings nothing.

And I liked the guy elsewhere in the past. No point being on this team though. Total waste of a roster spot.

Tigers would pick up the tab. Other team would pay pro-rated minimum. I'd say he'd find a home. Unless he did not want to move too far from his home in Clev. I'm not sure how his daughter's condition is with her leukemia. At 35, he might retire. (Or settle for a player-coach job in Toledo?)

Any openings on the Whitecaps coaching staff? :)

Aren't we already paying him peanuts?(his daughter had leukemia? That's sad.)

They could make room for him in tClubhouse at 5th/3rd I'm sure. Attendence had seemed down, maybe a "new" former Tiger could help?

no...Aviles is getting $2mil this year. That's why Detroit would have to flat out release him and swallow what's left of that.

Ilitch wipes his ass with $1.5 million.

No...he does not. That is what people that ARE NOT Millionaires believe. Mr. Illitch has accountants who watch every penny. Illitch may not worry about $2mil...but he has people who do.

Zimmermann couldn't make 5 innings. We now get to see Sanchez on a lengthy trip out of the pen (at least I would assume so)

Well, with Zimmermann giving up 7 runs, I don't think Ausmus' lineup is gonna be the big issue today.

Hey, a second hit for Aviles. Don't look now, but he's back over the Mendoza line (.208).

Have to get a WAR in here, but I think the going rate for a "win" is a few million.

Situations like this are why Mr. I put the cheese in the crust.

Aviles over .200? Have Upton and Iglesias been told this?

If Aviles keeps this up....they may have to drop a relief pitcher and bring up Tyler Collins to remake the Bench Boys club. I have faith that Collins could keep a sub .200 average.

Tigers with 8 LOBs in 6 innings. Looking like last night's Blue Jays.

To paraphrase Jim Leyland's famous line from 2006, the players look like they are "already on the plane to New York."

I wonder if Josh Donaldson will beat up Kevin Pillar in the clubhouse after today's game. Donaldson needed just a double for the cycle. In the 8th inning, Pillar inexplicably tried to steal 2nd with his team up 7-2. He was thrown out by McCann. Barring a double play, all Pillar had to do was stay on base to guarantee Donaldson one more AB in the 9th. As it was, Donaldson was standing in the on-deck circle when the Blue Jays made their final out of the game.

Who would you guys choose between keeping Romine or Aviles at this point?

Tough call. It might be decided by who they want (or get) to add to the roster. Romine's speed and defense are better...but it appears that all MLB pitchers know his weakness - the pitched ball. Aviles might be able to hit above .200, but not by alot. But it appears that Ausmus trusts Romine to be a defensive replacement for Castellanos and even Cabrera. So I'll wait and see who the Tigers add - if anyone. Whichever one goes, it won't decide the Tiger's ultimate finish in 2016.

My preference is Romine, for his speed and infield defense. Neither is much of a hitter. Aviles is slightly better than Romine, but not enough to make a huge difference. The only real advantage Aviles has is he's played more MLB games in the outfield, and the Tigers are going with just three outfielders right now. Should the Tigers promote Moya, Gose or "Birdman" (Collins), I'd say Aviles is expendable.
