Start Moya, take him out after the 6th inning. The fewer plate appearances by Avila and Romine, the better. Tigers are going to have to come to a decision on those two soon. You cannot, IMO, keep two utility players that can't hit their weight. Get rid of one and find someone who can play a couple of positions - even if it is poorly - but can hit.

Very much agree. Can't stand looking at the potential late-inning pinch hitters and seeing both Aviles and Romine, plus a backup catcher. I think at this point of their careers, Romine is the better base stealer/base runner and better infielder. The one advantage Aviles has is he can play the outfield better (at least compared to Romine). The Tigers have enough viable outfielders, however, to cover injuries. So to me, Aviles can go.

Yep. AL ERA leader in 2013. Then the injuries came and he's never been quite the same since.

Pitching overall, but especially starting pitching, needs to improve or the Tigers will be bumbling around the .500 mark all season. They've already lost too many games in which the offense scores 5+ runs.

7-2 on the nine-game homestand (assuming the Tigers don't come back in the 9th), and Sanchez has both losses. The Tigers scored 5 runs in both games. Yeah, I know the Tigers defense didn't do him any favors today. Still not a great effort.

I'm thinking the same thing with Boyd, but it's still possible we may need him in Zimmermann's spot. Sure hope Zimm can pitch after the one missed start.

I just read that Sanchez's era went down from .623 to .604.. It's because unearned runs

Greene could be an asset. Norris having a rough time in Toledo (6.91 ERA). 7-2 on a home stand is nice, but I am still not sold on keeping Ausmus (but I will root for him as long as he's our guy)!!!!

Shane Greene was dominant in a 61-pitch rehab start with Toledo, holding the Bulls to four hits in 3 1/3 innings. Greene struck out seven of the 14 batters he faced, including a pair of Bulls to strand a one-out double in the second. The Mud Hens would lose their lead as soon as Greene departed, though. Drew VerHagen allowed a home run to the first batter he faced, and Drake Britton gave up three runs in the next inning to take the loss. Offensively, Chad Huffman and Casey McGehee combined for seven of Toledo's nine hits.

TOLEDO -- Left-handed pitcher Matt Boyd was held out of his scheduled start for Triple-A Toledo this morning because of the uncertainty about Jordan Zimmermann’s availability for his next start for the Detroit Tigers. Zimmermann left his last start with a right groin strain.

That probably works but the problem is the pitching. I wouldn't be so down on McCann yet it is hard to tell how far the injury set him back. Time will tell.

At least the poor hitting isn't affecting McCann's defense. He's throwing out base stealers at a 50% clip, and still hasn't made an error in his MLB career (137 games and counting).

Zimmerman to the DL or not. Id rather see Boyd than anyone but JV, Fulmer and Frankie. And I'm not really expecting much from Boyd. Sad.

Really hate to see guys get hurt early in the season like that. He's got healthy enough to play again, but I don't doubt his entire season is skewed by that injury in April.

Franchise is committed to JM imo.

I won't miss Iglesias when he's gone though. Not like any of us miss Avi Garcia either.
