This is kind of like beating a dead horse. It could also be the definition of insanity to keep running Palfrey out there.. there Comes A Time when winning has to be more important then the stupid spending of money.

Agreed.

Tigers AL Rankings:

Batting Average = .267 (2nd)
Runs Scored = 203 (3rd)
Home Runs = 60 (3rd)
ERA = 4.50 (12th)

I stated somewhere back in Spring Training that I thought the Tigers would hit enough that they can get to the post-season with a middle-of-the-pack pitching staff. But with a 12th-ranked staff, they'll struggle to stay around the .500 mark all year.

With a 1.81 WHIP (second-worst among 104 qualifying MLB starters), Pelfrey needs to be #6.

I think it is time to let Matt Boyd have a couple of starts, especially if Zimmermann ends up missing some. He is pitching well in Toledo (2.06 ERA/1.14 WHIP). Norris is stinking it up like the Maumee on a hot day and the only other decent starter is well traveled AAA veteran Thad Weber. Put Pelfrey in the pen or have him develop the mystery ailment for a 15 day DL stint.

As bad as Pelfrey has been, with the state of starting pitching due to injury and lack of talent, he'd be scooped up in a minute if the Tigers released him. Yet, with his contract, no team is going to give you a warm can of Keystone beer for him.

Verlander is trying to win consecutive starts for the first time this season. He picked up his 2,000th career strikeout last week. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has been on a bit of roll in his last three starts, having allowed four runs on 13 hits in 22 1/3 innings. During that time, he's struck out 27.

• Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson is 2-3 with a 1.86 ERA in five career starts against the Tigers. In his first start against Detroit in 2010 with Tampa Bay, he pitched seven scoreless innings. He last faced the Tigers in 2013 as a member of the Rays. The 29-year-old, who won the AL Rookie of the Year award in 2011, has been solid for Philadelphia since coming over from Arizona.

Yeah, right now, Zimmermann is just going to miss Friday's start. With an off day Thursday, the team can skip it and keep the other four on their normal rest. If Zimm's next throwing sessions go poorly, however.... ugh.
That'd be really great if he only missed one start. I don't want to see it be four or five, or worse.

Yeah, the Tigers would have to do what Miami did with Saltalamacchia ... just release him and eat the $$$. Any team could then sign Pelfrey for the major league minimum for 2016 and/or 2017, and the Tigers would pay the balance. Expensive mistake by Al Avila.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting at catcher in place of James McCann. Saltalamacchia is batting .320 (8 for 25) with three doubles, three home runs and five RBIs against right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, who is starting tonight for the Phillies.

Moya should be starting imo.

Aviles needing to get abs isn't something I agree with.

Start Moya, take him out after the 6th inning. The fewer plate appearances by Avila and Romine, the better. Tigers are going to have to come to a decision on those two soon. You cannot, IMO, keep two utility players that can't hit their weight. Get rid of one and find someone who can play a couple of positions - even if it is poorly - but can hit.

Yes, Detroit has Castellanos, Miggy, VMart, Kinsler, and Maybin all batting over .300.

But they also have Salty, Avila, Romine, and McCann batting UNDER .200. AND Iglesias at .215 and dropping fast.

Kind of hard to believe that J-Up is out hitting five guys!!!!!
