1-0 . Detroit had to lose 1-0 to exit the playoffs :tsk:.. They'll be back next season and they will be much better :thumb:

Better get a defenseman or two that can actually get the puck out of his own zone. And some scorers. The Wings scored 6 goals in the 5 playoff games, and went 1-for-25 on power plays. Aaaack!

Pelfrey can't keep this lucky BS up......Just keep loading them bases up, that balloon is going to pop sooner or later.

Pelfrey's numbers so far are astounding. You look at his 3.68 ERA and think, "well, that's not bad." But then you look deeper: 2.18 WHIP and 12 walks in 14.2 innings (7.4/9) ... YIKES!!!

--The Tigers start a seven-game home stand tonight. After a three-game set with Cleveland, the Tigers have a four-game series with Oakland.

--The Tigers will remember late broadcaster Paul Carey before tonight's game. A flag with Carey's initials will be raised on the center field flag pole and will be flown throughout the season.

The Tigers went 11-7 against the Indians in 2015. That .611 winning percentage was the Tigers' best against any American League team last year.

Cameron Maybin - got hit on his injured wrist by a pitch. Will be held out of games a few days before returning to rehab in Toledo. They were hoping for a Monday return....but obviously this delay will push that back. Add to that, he was batting only .208 in Toledo. I'm guessing we may not see him until May.

Mike Pelfrey

I try and try and try. But I just can't picture in my mind the scenario where Tiger GM Avila, his asst David Chadd, Scott Bream, former ballplayers like Kaline and Trammell, a variety of team scouts and others, who are supposed to have baseball smarts......could sit in a room and all came to the conclusion that signing Mike Pelfrey for two years (for $16mil) was a good idea. Oh sure, there are conspiracy theories, like Pelfrey's agents had pictures of Mike Illitch humping Betty White......but leaving those aside....WHAT kind of thought process was going on with these guys that they could all leave a room, probably sleep on the idea, AND STILL think Mike Pelfrey was the answer to anything other than batting practice pitcher?????

BTW: Pelfrey's response to the press for his poor performance: "I guess I need to be a lot better." Duh

I don't know much about Upton before he came to the Tigers other than what Iffy has told us. But he sure doesn't look like a contact hitter. This begs the question who should be our number two hitter and where do you hit Upton?

Anibal Sanchez has not yet pitched through the sixth inning in a start this season, as high pitch counts in early innings have cost him. Two key Tigers are off to very slow starts this season. Miguel Cabrera is hitting .220, including .200 in his past seven games. Justin Upton is hitting .227 on the season.

Tigers
1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
2. Justin Upton, LF
3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
4. Victor Martinez, DH
5. J.D. Martinez, RF
6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
8. Andrew Romine, SS
9. Anthony Gose, CF

The ESPN announcers were discussing Upton batting #2 in a game a few days ago. One thought he should move down in the order. I think the other felt, that he should learn to adapt to being in the two hole.

Personally, Upton batting #2 is not terrible on a team with no stolen base threat at #1. However, he has to offset his Ks with a decent OBP. He isn't doing that now. So what is the alternative? Iglesias? He has gone on record as saying he disliked batting there AND he has hit better at the bottom of the order. One of the ESPN guys suggested moving Cabrera (and everyone) up one spot in the order and putting Upton in at #6. Interesting....Cincy did it with Votto. I'd give the current batting order a LITTLE more time. If Upton (and Cabrera) continue to fail....make some changes.

I am sick of watching Anthony Gose at the plate. He came to Detroit where the reputation of no bat. Regrettably he has lived up to that.
Maybin has started his rehab again in Toledo. Hopefully he returns soon. I'm thinking he may be an option to hit in the two-hole.

During his rookie year in Detroit in 2007, Maybin hit just .143 in 24 games with three doubles, one home run and five stolen bases. In 141 games with the Atlanta Braves last season, he hit .267 with 18 doubles, two triples, 10 homers and 59 RBIs, and he was 23-for-29 in stolen-base attempts.

I don't see Maybin as a contact hitter. Unless he hits .270 or above, his OBP won't be real high. With his speed, he'd be the perfect guy to bat 9th and be the second "leadoff hitter". BUT...with few other choices (and no obvious ones), Maybin might fit into the #2 spot as well as anyone. Put Upton at #6 and slide the rest down.

I just thought if he produce the numbers he did in Atlanta last year it may not be a bad fit.

McCann needs to get back soon. Salty is not a good catcher....that was known.

ERA's
Verlander 5.79
Sanchez 5.71
Greene 7.15
Zimmerman 0.00
Pelfrey 6.14

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

Yeah, the home runs are nice from Salty, but he is puke behind the plate.
