We can't shit on Maxiell, Smitty is a huge fan of his. Yet thinks Castellanos is a massive bum.

Castellanos is an awful defensive player, who starts. (And I won't need to use him as homer bate anymore anyway.)

Maxiell was like the third or fourth guy off the bench.

If Joique Bell had been a special teamer or a fullback who made league minimum I wouldn't have cared much.(how long did you and OhioIsCaca rehearse your lines today?)

Dude Castellanos is getting paid a garbage salary. And Maxiell started for like 2 years. If Nick doesn't progress as a player he will continue to get paid what he's worth and the Tigers will probably replace him. No big deal, he is still young and there is still time with him. If he is still a bum than that was on Dave for drafting him, and he will be replaced.

Pelfrey starts against Houston today. In four starts, he's allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits and five walks while striking out nine over 15 1/3 innings, good for a 1.17 ERA.

He gave up 9 runs in 5 innings in a minor league start, then 4 runs in 5 innings yesterday. He's still Mike Pelfrey.

I expect him to be right around his career mark of a 4.52 ERA during the regular season, with a WHIP above 1.4. But hell, if Afredo Simon was able to win 13 games with a 5.05 ERA last season, Pelfrey should be good for that many, too.

And I doubt it means much for the regular season, but James McCann had a homer and a double yesterday. He's now hitting .351 this spring.

BAD news for smitty....one of his favorites, Bruce Rondon, will probably start the season in Toledo.
Looks like Tyler Collins has won the spot to replace Maybin. I still have my fingers crossed that if VMart hits the DL, they recall slugging Dixon Machado.

Yeah, Collins is hitting a robust .359 this spring and is a needed LH bat, while Bernard is only hitting .212. The problem is it leaves Detroit with only one true center fielder coming north (Gose). If Gose doesn't play a given game, the guy on the (likely) Tiger roster with the most experience in CF is (*aack*) Mike Aviles.

This spring, yes. I was talking about regular season game experience. Aviles has maybe a dozen games in CF. Romine none. Plus, Romine has a noodle arm from SS to 1B, so it's gotta really suck from CF.

Aviles? Clubhouse presence, I assume. AL teams also NEED to carry a guy who can play multiple positions...considering their bench usually only consists of 4 players. Backup catcher, spare middle infielder, 4th outfielder......the 4th guy needs to play several places to have value. I guess that is Avila on this club. The 25th man.

Romine has value as a late-inning replacement for Castellanos in the field and as a pinch runner, and not much else. I'm not an Aviles fan either, but he has many more MLB games in the outfield than Romine, so I'm sure that means he'll be heading north.

I was a pretty good center fielder about 30 years ago ... I couldn't hit a tee ball though. Maybin won't be gone too long, they will be able to fight through it.
