Yo Smitty, Been on spring break got to go see a few of my nephews games. He plays for a few teams.......His High School coach was drafted by the Tigers back in the day.....He didn't make it past single A....He played for the Michigan White Caps back in 2003 (Dustin Smith) Nothing special but was playing with Joel Zumaya, Brent Clevlen (sp) Ryan Raburn (BUM) and a few others.

Nephew did good....Pitched 5 innings struck out 7, gave up 1 earned and 1 unearned in a 7-4 win. Picked off two base runners, one at first base base and one at second base.

All the Michigan references are by concidence that he plays down here and has interest or connections in Michigan.

He's still getting letters from schools, UK still interested in him.

That's were he was going...don't know much about the pitcher. ..Jaye

Basically just trying to get something/anything for a guy who was out of minor league options. Holaday could easily be on the big-league club in Arlington. Neither of the Rangers catchers (Chirinos and Gimenez) light it up at the plate.

Myles Jaye has been a starter in the minors, mostly in the White Sox organization. Career minor league ERA of 4.15 and hasn't pitched above AA. A long shot to ever pitch in the majors. Bobby Wilson is basically just depth in case Salty or McCann get hurt.

Does his team go down to Florida to play? Nice having a head coach with professional expierience.

Before Brennan Boeschs time?

He plays on a travel ball team in the summer that travels all through the south east....He had one game broadcast on espn last summer. Forget would league it was in. USSSA maybe.....I think it was before Boeschs' time.....The coach also played at APSU the local college down here in Clarksville.

Well, it appears highly likely that Alex Wilson and Blaine Hardy will both start the 2016 season on the DL. Angel Nesbitt is out 4-6 weeks, and Jeff Farrell got hurt last week and hasn't returned. Bruce Rondon and Michael Fulmer have been assigned to Toledo. Looking at what's left on the 40-man, this is the probable Tiger bullpen:

Francisco Rodriguez
Mark Lowe
Justin Wilson
Drew Verhagen
Kyle Ryan
Buck Farmer
Matt Boyd or Shane Greene (whoever loses the #5 starter battle)

Blecch.

And with the Holaday trade, it's pretty well settled that extra four position players coming north will be Salty, Aviles, Romine and Collins.

Adding Maybin, A. Wilson, and Blaine Hardy back to the lineup (in April?) will help....but I am not sure those three hold the key to success for 2016. As I stated before....the Tigers will go as far as their offense can take them. Hopefully a couple of starters keep their ERA and xFIP low and help the offense get leads that this bullpen can keep.

Greene was very sharp in his last two spring starts ... 10.2 IP, 1 run, 6 hits. The #5 starter job is his, as the Tigers optioned Boyd to AAA yesterday. Not sure who the extra bullpen guy is now. They don't need a #5 starter until April 12, so Greene could pitch out of the pen for the two games in Miami.

As for Boyd, he has pitched pretty well in the spring. His 4.25 spring ERA was inflated by one bad 3-inning start. But it looks like Ausmus has opted to get Boyd more development in AAA, where he can start and throw regular innings.

It appears the final bullpen spot is down to a couple of non-roster invitees: veteran Logan Kensing and Lendy Castillo.
