Saw two early predictions for the AL Central based on metrics. Fangraphs, using simple run differential totals, came up with an 82-80 record for Detroit - placing them second behind the Indians by 2 games. Using this model, only two MLB teams had more than 90 wins - Cubs and Red Sox. The other model had Detroit also in second, but this time behind KC. Using different metrics (???) they gave Detroit an 84-78 record, 6 games behind KC. This metric showed extreme parity in the AL, with the Royals 90 wins the tops and the A' 90 loses the worst.

An interesting note...if you totaled all the wins in the AL Central, in the Fangraph's model....it would exactly equal the weight of Bruce Rondon!

Now that the Tiger's signed Upton.. what the hell is Aviles going to do on the roster... I couldn't figure out why he was signed in the first place.. but now it is even worse... His place on the 25 man roster should be a for a left handed hitting player.

Yeah, as of right now, it looks like the Tiger lineup will get OWNED by tough RH pitchers. Way too RH-dominant at the plate.

WAs not expecting the AL Central to win 412 games this year.

Most of the Tigers lineup can handle right handed pitching just fine. Not really worried about it.

I agree....so I wonder what was your concern with getting Tyler Collins approx 50-60 ABs this season?

As a pinch hitter/runner.. what would you rather have coming off the bench... Aviles or Collins? Aviles is worthless.. there is no point in him being on the roster. Collins would be much better served on the bench as a pinch runner or hitter than that loser. His contract and presence on the team make no sense at all.

Is Aviles your latest/newest windmill that you feel you must attack (dougie must be Sancho to your Don Quixote)? I would be very, very surprised if the Tiger's World Series hopes are pinned on either Aviles or Collins. PLEASE! If Aviles is on the roster in April, let's not hear post after post about how the Tigers might have won a game if they had Collins on the bench OR (and this is more likely) that Ausmus had the audacity to actually use Aviles in a game!!!

Especially if they bring Romine north, too. It's unnecessary redundancy.

Possible scenario: Tuesday night Castellanos takes a foul ball off the big toe. DL isn't needed but he'll need a day off (maybe two). Romine takes his place for the Wednesday day game. Your bench is now, Collins, Saltalamachia, and Goss. Tiger middle infielder goes down in the fifth......whatcha do?

I have all the faith in the world, that the Tigers can and will win the AL Central.

Much like last year, I think it is wide open. The team that pitches the best and has the fewest key injuries wins. I'm skeptical of Minnesota having a winning record again, as I think their 2015 home record was a bit of a fluke. (They were 7 under .500 on the road.) But I think any of the four other teams can win it.

If Aviles is not on the roster, you bring up Machado or Marte after Tuesday night and send down Collins. They've gone with only one extra infielder in previous seasons.

It's kinda the age-old dilemma, innit? Go with 5 outfielders or 6 infielders. I guess the only difference between Romine and Aviles is that Romine (supposedly) can also play outfield.

Now Castellanos is back on Thursday and you have Machado and Romine (2 infielders on the bench). And Collins can't be recalled for over a week

Aviles has played a handful of games in the outfield too, I guess.

So what's the difference between Machado and Romine or Machado and Aviles? Or Romine and Aviles? If your argument is to keep Aviles over Collins, I don't get your point.

AL teams need players who can play multiple positions...thus Aviles types tend to stick around.
