Tigers hitters starting to clutch it out. The Pitching has been clutch for so long.

Edit: I said this earlier but can you imagine if Verlander's HRs given up was his career average. Dude would have a sub 1.00 WHIP probably mid to high 2 ERA. Basically he would be having a 2011 year with a better k/9 ratio.

PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
LHP Matt Boyd (5-2, 4.00 ERA)

Chicago White Sox
RHP Miguel Gonzalez (2-6, 4.05 ERA)

GAME NOTES
--The Tigers have won six of their last seven games and remain tied with the Orioles in the chase for the second and final American League wild card playoff spot. The Tigers are 4.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central.

--Thanks to success on recent trips, the Tigers now have a winning record (36-34) on the road this season.

--Matt Boyd has been very good since July. The Tigers have won eight of his last nine starts. That one loss was against the White Sox, a 4-3 defeat on July 23. Boyd also struggled some his last time out, allowing seven hits and two runs in four innings against the White Sox in Detroit on Aug. 29. The Tigers won that game, 4-3.

--Miguel Gonzalez is coming off the disabled list (groin strain) to make today's start for the White Sox. He last pitched for Chicago on Aug. 11.

--Justin Upton is 19-for-56 (.339) with four doubles, eight home runs and 21 RBIs since Aug. 20. With his big day Monday, Miguel Cabrera is 10 for 23 (.435) with three homers in his last five games. That included a milestone, his 300th homer in a Tigers uniform.

CHICAGO -- Jordan Zimmermann has been activated from the disabled list and will return to the Detroit Tigers starting rotation on Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles.
The Tigers have an off day on Thursday, which will give rookie Michael Fulmer an extra day of rest for his start on Friday, when the Tigers open a critical three-game series against the Orioles at Comerica Park. Ace Justin Verlander will pitch on Sunday.

Zimmermann said his velocity ranged from 90-93 mph during his final start at Toledo, but he was more concerned about his command.
