I think signing Shields would be a good move. The future is already in shambles, so if you're all in now I think it's best to be in with the most chips possible. Make sure we don't waste the twilight of Miggy's prime.

I have liked the idea of Shields but Detroit is close to the Luxury cap and I can't see Dave D wanting to have to pay a penalty for going over it.

Detroit really needs to start addressing their farm teams. They have used them as trade chips pretty well but it is getting to the point I can't see many guys ready in 2-3 years. Right now I can see Moya and McCann.

Ilitch has shown us he wants to win, he probably doesn't care about the penalty.
As for the farm teams, after digging this deep I think all of the eggs are in the World Series basket, taking some out to add prospects will make this a bigger mess than it is already. If you're going all in, go in hard!

I strongly believe that prospects aren't worth as much as most people value them, so I admit a bias on this topic.

Actually the Tigers do care about paying the penalty. The went over and paid the tax after the tax after the 09 season and then DD traded Granderson and edwin jackson to shed 10 mil in salary in place of minimum salary guys like Austin Jackson, Max and Phil coke. So yes they care about the luxury tax.

RIP Dave Bergman. Passed away after a bout with cancer. He was only 61.

WTF gives? How does this guy train, were he is always getting hurt?
Sounds like REVENGE OF THE ROIDS for Martinez.

But hey, Dumbo was quoted as saying that Avila and Romine can fill in. Think again, think again.

I like the young guys like Moya and Collins getting a chance to fill in if Vmart misses time...If Miggy misses time we may need outside help...

WTF how is he training???

Running against a pro football defense? The guy isn't fast enough to make hard cuts!

Somebody needs to set his ass down on a stationary bike and tell him start pedaling! Thats your off season conditioning!

Collins could get significant time at DH. I just don't see Moya going north unless their is another injury. The kid needs to play everyday and work on his game. He is 2016 starting OF.

Moyas 23 now and has been in the minors since '09. Nearly 500 minor league games.

Id rather have his power in Detroit than Toledo if we're missing our 3-4 hitters at the start of the season. But I hear ya on everyday abs.

Has Iggy "healed" from his shin splints? Haven't heard any reports. If not, BIG TROUBLE IN CHINA TOWN.

Last I heard, aboot two weeks ago, he hadnt ran on solid ground since last spring.

Not sure if that means he's working out in the pool, or what.

WTF how is he training???

Good question. V-mart actually credited his increased power last season to a stronger lower body, thanks to workouts with his brother. So I'm guessing the regimen is pretty intense.
