Without Joe's walk, the Carrera play doesn't mean as much. In fact, with no runners on base, I'd think he maybe makes the safer play there.

Let's face it, Joe has zero command this season. His walk rate is 4.6/9. It had never been higher than 3.1/9 in the previous nine seasons, with most seasons in the 2's. He's falling behind on far too many hitters, forcing him to throw a 90-mph faux fastball over the plate.

You can say what if? but it happened and that stupid D cost the Tigers.....and that was the D replacement guy out there....minor league play in the OF....D was a problem last year too and this time of year you can't hide it....Joe agrees because he caught big shit for throwing a team mate under the bus earlier in the season....

I'm not excusing Carrera. He has to know when to make a risky play and when not to. But it's not Carrera's fault that Joe walked Plouffe. And it's not Carrera's fault that Joe fell behind Suzuki and threw a pitch that the guy absolutely crushed.

the problem is that he was trying to hard to make a play and failed because of that. He cuts that off and the entire inning changes. man on 2nd at that point. etc.
