adrian....are the Tigers really set up to be a small ball team? No speed, a lot of them aren't the type to run up pitch counts, bunting ability questionable. The stadium they play in would be ideal for a team to do a lot of aggressive baseball...but management has put together a slow, station to station team (with poor defense). Perhaps that is the kind of team Leyland likes to manage? But to expect the 2013 Tigers to play like a small-ball team isn't logical. And that comes from a guy who likes watching an aggressive manager (Kirk Gibson). I'd prefer a team that does not have to rely on the 'big inning' like the Tigers. (frankly, the Tigers are boring to watch) But they are what they are.

As much as burf likes calling me names, stupid, dirty, etc... (his rant on the cbs blog was epic the other day)....I do understand the Leyland WILL be the scapegoat if the Tigers fail this year. It is S.O.P. for most fans to hack the manager when a team under-performs. But, I hope, that a few of the more intelligent fans can rise above that and see that 'player failures' will be more critical to wins and loses. Of course there will always be those who think they can out-manage any MLB manager, simply by watching a game on TV. (And being 'great' in a fantasy league. lol)

despite the losses it is interesting seeing JL totally out managed by Sciosca and maddon. Guys that play the more aggressive style as opposed to the JL style of sitting back and waiting for the extra base hit.

I don't think it's that he's sitting back.... I think he's sleeping. People can support Leyland all they want. And they can whine about people blaming him too. But I'm really tired of JL's half-retired laid back style. I thought last night might remind him that he has a pulse, and after a couple not so great calls at home on balls and strikes, I thought he might stayed fired up. But the man is old, energetic is something I need to give up hope of seeing out of him, and his team. Nobody ever talks about how energetic their slow pitch softball team is,...

In other news, the Tigers offense wasted ANOTHER strong outing by Ricky.

Managers are hired to be fired. They know that the failures of their players will -sooner or later- cost them their jobs. It has not changed in a long time. I just remind myself, that there ARE fans out there that know where the real problems are...even if they voice the standard ''blame the manager'' chant.

(I seem to recall that no kid I knew collected Manager cards when collecting baseball cards. Although, as kids, we would always say, "Our manager is better than yours.''. Then we grew up and became more like muzz.....understanding that the manager represented all the hated bosses we have/had.)

No love for AJ? Before today, he has been 19 for 52 with 13 BBs and 1 HBP since returning from the DL. So he's hitting .365 with a .500 OBP and 14 runs scored in 14 games.

Just what exactly is it you want from a leadoff hitter?

Well, I was saying yesterday that the only hitters in the lineup who are at all "clutch" are Miggy and Prince. Far too many LOBs for the others, especially Hunter.

Sucks, because the team pitched well enough to win all three games.

Alex Avila out of the lineup in Toledo and to be activated for tomorrows game. Although I have been a fairly big critic of his offense, his game calling is much needed. since going on the DL the staff has given up 74 runs in 13 games. An average of 5.7 a game. Not saying this is all on Alex, but the staff just performs better with Alex behind the plate. On a bad news note, sanchez had has rehab start in Florida cut short after taking a liner to his leg.

Whats the prognosis of Sanchez adrian? Did you see it or read about it?......There's a big difference on taking 90 mph ball off the shoulder or buttocks and taking 40 mph hit ball in the the ankle......

walked off on his own power. But was grimacing and threw only 23 pitches. It was in the GCL, in the afternoon. not much info available.
