Cleveland closes gap to one and a half games. With a weak starting pitcher today...things looking bad.

Looking bad? Its only the end of june. Where were we last year at this time? Ok they are beating up on the chi sox. How many do the tigers have left with the sox?

Seems like u love it when the tigers are losing.

I guess leyland figured this game wasnt important....pull smyly after 14 pitches, in an extra inning game? Put rondon in, on the road, of a tie game? Whyyyyyy?

I would like someone - anyone - to explain the correlation between where the Tigers were last year, at this time....and what will happen the rest of this season. Where is the evidence that what happened last year will occur again this year? (My coin flipping scenario - please)

The only thing that I can state with 100% positivity, concerning this year and last, is that Tiger fans will blame Jim Leyland for any and all problems and failures. Evidence for that can be found from going back and checking any baseball blog, concerning the Tigers, from 2006 forward.

Ok 68, I put my final 25 Vbucks down on JV one last time. Can he actually get through 6 innings tonite?

Looks like you're going to have to be a runner for the vbookie for awhile to get back in the game.

Better hurry. I hear JV will have another start in 5 days or so.

Sure would be nice if the offense did anything after the 3rd inning today. JV wasn't great, but he went 8, gave up only two earned, hit 99 on what must have been a hot radar gun, but we lost, again. For a guy who walked four, he managed his pitch count pretty well, but Prince couldn't handle a grounder, and Luke Scott hates Detroit. And I was thinking we'd be back to .500 at the end of this series.(On the road.)

It goes without saying that I'm not a Scherzer fan, but he's the only starter I'm willing to put Vcash down on. Can you buy back in Muzz? Wonder how that works....

I got to witness that blown game in person. I'm not one for blaming Leyland like captain douchebag but this one is on Jimmy. Madden put his closer in in the 9th with the game tied and the top of the their order coming up in the bottom of the 9th. He was playing to win. When it didnt happen he left him in for another. Jimmy should have left Smyly in, and if he was going to change him it should have been Benoit. That being said Rondon didnt pitch that bad...the grounder just got by Infante (who shouldve dived) andthen the fister was cheesy bad luck too. And why the hell was AJAX playing so shallow with 2 down. I was sitting behind home plate, I thought it was a for sure can of corn.

Yes. But unlike many posters, I do not want Jim Leyland out. Many strategical moves he makes are questionable, but there is a lot more involved than just strategy in running a team. He handles his players well, has a solid clubhouse and overall keeps the team's mindset on an even keel.

If he wasn't the age he is today, other teams would be lining up with offers for him to manage.

I myself have never understood why JL feels the need to bring relief pitchers up and put them in pressure situations as opposed to working them slowly into the mix. back end of the pen (smyly/Benoit) threw 14 pitches. back end of the Rays (peralta/rodney) threw 43 pitches. I think we know why the Tigers are 2-9 in extras. JL playing not to lose.

by the way JL did the same thing with Casey Fien. brought him in high level situations as a rookie. he has hooked on with the Twins and sporting a nice 3.54 ERA and a whip under 1 in 32 innings. but I'm sure the manager has nothing to do with that (sarcasm).

despite the losses it is interesting seeing JL totally out managed by Sciosca and maddon. Guys that play the more aggressive style as opposed to the JL style of sitting back and waiting for the extra base hit.
