Yo! Cleaves. I see Cliff Alexander has his top 10 schools. MSU being one of them. He's visited the school twice.....What's the word on how interested he is in playing for Izzo?

I only ask here because there isn't a NCAA college B-Ball forum on this site....Must not be enough traffic to warrant it I guess.

I can't complain about that HR......It was inside with movement.....Victorino just pulled everything inside and hit hit square...... Let's see how Douggie handles it.

So much for that...... Everything found a hole, I wouldn't even credit half as those as hits, but shit happens.

Vmart had one that shouldn't have been a hit as well, so oh well.....Just BS baseball.....Nothing was small ball here....Just bullshit baseball. Crap hits and Crap fielding......Nothing to see here.....Just another Astros vs Cubs game with two leaders in the AL East and AL Central playing.....

Maybe tomorrow we can see some baseball, but tonite I just watched my nephews game.

JL is just forcing DDs hand........I actually like it.......JL will keep trotting Coke out there and the result will be bad.....

Something will break.......JL will go down with the ship....DD's ego is so big that he thinks he gave JL enough.......Something will break, it always does when fans put the pressure on with this kind of bank roll involved.

Something is going to happen......There will be a move to get a closer, no doubt in my mind. I just hate watching the product on the field in the meantime....

JL has leverage because of the record the Tigers have.....If we had the White Sox record he couldn't ask for more....

JL and the Tigers also lead the AL central because of Illitch letting DD spend....So the game becomes, who has more leverage?

Painful to watch, but come August, we should know who won the battle and who won the war between DD and JL.

Garcia needs to get dealt, and get dealt quickly. About as quickly as Coke needs to get the Valverde treatment.

Unfortunately this is often what the Tigers get when the starting pitcher is not getting strikeouts. Doug Fister pitched a lot better than his line indicates. There were a number of lucky seeing-eye grounders for the Red Sox. But as per usual Detroit's middle infielders (Jhonny Peralta in particular) have an extreme lack of range. Yes Omar Infante and Peralta are sure-handed, but slow afoot as it gets. And when they do make errors, it tends to create big innings.

In a glaring example illustrating why ground balls tend to kill the Tigers, look at this play in the Red Sox fourth inning. In the midst of the floodgates opening, Jose Iglesias hit a soft little grounder to Peralta , Jhonny did not do what a quality major league shortstop should do, that is, bare-hand the ball and fire to first. Instead he gloves it and by the time he transfers the ball to his throwing hand, it is too late to get Iglesias. 90% of big league shortstops will do it bare hand.

Rick Porcello is a complete miscast on this club. So is Dougie when he is not striking a lot of batters out. This is why Anibal Sanchez' injury is a damaging one. Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, and he miss a lot of bats. JV is not having a signature season but he still misses a lot of bats.

As it gets closer to the half way point of the season, I decided to list MY choices of those Tigers who FAILED to reach my expectations. These are MY opinions – none etched in stone. (A plus sign means they really have messed up.)

1. VMart +
2. Avila +
3. Dirks
4. A. Jackson (due to prolonged injury)
5. Santiago (although expectations were low to start with)
6. QBerry + (come on – most thought he’d make the team)
7. Verlander
8. Porcello (getting closer to expectations, I’ll admit)
9. Coke
10. Rondon
11. Valverde (actually reached my expectation of suckiness)
12. Al Al
13. Villarreal
14. Dotel +
15. The Three Stooges

Did I read that correctly, 112 pitches in 5 innings for Verlander??? Is he hurting or has he become one of the overpaid, under performing professional athletes we've come accustom to watching?

I don't know ... all starters go through rough stretches, but this one has featured some uncharacteristic wildness for JV. Three more walks today, a hit batter, and a boatload of three ball counts. The infield did him no favors in the third... Jhonny P doesn't charge a grounder and it ends up an infield single for Pedroia, and later in the inning Infante air-mails an easy double play ball. An earned run on JV where no one hit a ball hard. But that doesn't excuse the lack of command (again).

I still trust he will figure it out. All-Star break should do JV some good, and I expect better in the second half.
