Problems with JV? Who knows? Shoulder problems? (he did hit 98mph today - so maybe not). Over-reliance on his change-up? Control issues with fastball or maybe lack of movement? My guess....he is getting older, plus a dash of complacency with his new contract.

Of course we can always take the muzz route and blame Leyland.

Yo! Cleaves. I see Cliff Alexander has his top 10 schools. MSU being one of them. He's visited the school twice.....What's the word on how interested he is in playing for Izzo?

I only ask here because there isn't a NCAA college B-Ball forum on this site....Must not be enough traffic to warrant it I guess.

Hey muzz. Been busy lately

I believe the spartans are the front runner for alexander. Izzo was one of if not the first coach to start recruiting him here. Plus alexander loves izzo. Last month he had a pic of izzo as his twitter avatar i heard. Or whatever they use on twitter. If i was to bet, i think izzo lands alexander and tyler ulis. I live 5 mins from where ulis plays at marion catholic and izzo was the first big program to recruit ulis. He was here alot this past season watching him play. He was only a 2-3 star at first, but is moving towards being a 4 star by the end of this year. Hes fast as hell but only like 5'6-5'7 range. Jahlil okafer likes izzo alot also. And him and 5 star guard tyus jones want to play on the same team. Izzo went and watched jones play hours after sparty beat memphis in the tourney. Alot think okafer will choose duke. But i dont believe he will follow parker there. Okafer and parkers teams didnt get along here in chicago when they played each other. Another reason i dont see okafer going to illinois because of kendrick nunn. In the end i believe izzo gets alexander and ulis and has a decent shot at okafer and jones but kentucky or kansas could ruin that. Either way it goes, chicago has been izzos 2nd home the last 3 years. Missing out on jabari this year i believe his recruiting will pay off big time in the future here. Alexander and ulis will be spartans. If they add okafer AND jones, sparty will easily have the number 1 recruiting class.

Geez people were screaming and ready to run fielder and others out of town and BOOM we beat bosox 3 outta 4. I got all upset last year and we ended up winning division and making WS. so this year im taking a more relaxed look at the tigers. We still have the 2nd biggest lead in baseball in the worst division. This team is built for the playoffs. We havent even played the chi sox yet, who are about to blow up their team anyday.

I think people just got so spoiled with JV. isnt like hes pitching like valverde. Its baseball, players have stretches where they are bad. Even years. Now if JV does this for 3 straight years, id be worried. Besides we got max picking up the slack.

I'll say... not only 11-0 this season, but 19-2 since last year's All-Star break. An absolutely ridiculous stretch.

This team is built for the playoffs.

That is a tough statement to believe. We definitely have the starting pitching but other than that, no. The Tigers don't do the little things needed to win baseball games. Defense? One of the worst in baseball. Baserunning? Not only are they slow but they lack fundamentals. Relief Pitching? Nobody on this team wants to pitch the ninth inning (other than JV). Clutch hitting? Worst in the league with almost 8 LOB/ game. Not to mention that the Tigers big bats seem to heat up in the Summer and cool off with the weather.

The only way the Tigers get back to the WS is if JV returns to form and the starting staff carries them.

How funny. I read a lot of that story, but must have glossed over his prediction therein.

My guess is, is that he was just being polite & hopeful in and to his present company.

My 2nd guess is, is that Costner thought the Tigers would win it the year he made "For the love of the game".

Kind of how the glad-handing of Hollywood rolls.......

Tom Selleck use to do the same thing. Sported a Tiger cap in Magnum PI, batting practice with Tigers, his own uni, etc. Saw him show up in Baltimore at about the same time and heard him proclaim his admiration of the O's. PR

I'm not a Lebron James fan by any means, but he got lambasted for sporting a Yankee hat at a Yankee game by the State of Ohio while playing for the Cavaliers.

He simply stated that growning up he was a Yankee fan.....That didn't go over well for the state of Ohio....Guess he was suppose to be a Tribe fan because he grew up in Ohio and played for Cleveland.

So I respected his choice. I grew up a fan of Michigan teams. I couldn't just turn that off and switch because the court of public opinion thought I should.

Yeah muzz but lebron also likes the cowboys too. Seems like he was that kid that liked all the winners growing up. Like my lil brother. Duke hoop fan. Ohio st football fan. Yankee fan. Islander fan. 49er fan. Piston fan.......but of course he is now a tiger fan and red wing fan. Even likes ohio st hoops now.

I thought tom selleck was a HUGE tiger fan. Also remember ice cube wearing the tiger hat in boyz in the hood. The detroit D is the greatest sports logo to me. Fuck da yanks. Tigers home uni's are best in sports. And its not a homer thing cuz i never liked the pistons uni's(plain) or the wings(cuz i hate red).

Sorry cant agree. Tigers track record says different.....2 WS appearances another ALCS finish since 06. And yet, never really running away from anyone in the reg season due to stretches of inconsistency. JV has never really been in form in the playoffs anyways. Kenny rogers in 06. Coke sanchez last year. Ill take the tigers lineup vs any other team, with our starters in a 5 or 7 game series anyday. When you have a fister or sanchez pitching a game 3 and 4 while other teams will trot out a below avg pitcher. Not to mention JV and max going 1-2. Thats a tough draw for any team. Yes the tigers have a closer problem.....but they did last year also.....tigers lost the WS because the bats went cold and JV didnt set the tone in game 1. Besides DD the magician will get the pieces needed to get this team over the hump.....baseballs a funny sport....the best regular season team hardly ever wins the WS. the hottest team usually wins.

Did i hear the tigers could be the first team in a long time to lead the league in batting avg, starting ERA, and fielding percentage? Something like that. Guess it hasnt happened many times. They have alot of LOB because they get alot of hits. Some fans think the tigers should win 12-1 every game like its a video game. Prince almost has 60 RBI's but yet some fans are angry with him. Tiger fans are becoming too much like yankee fans. They must werent tiger fans during the randy smith era. Id rather have closer issues, baserunning issues, fundamentals, clutch hitting or any other flaws that fans see than worrying about getting 120 losses or having jeff weaver as our ace and bobby higginson as our best hitter. Or when the trade deadline rolls around, im glad we are the ones buying instead of trading away our so called best players for matt drew. Wasnt that the fat pitcher we got for fielder?

I have a friend like your brother. They will never know the true join of what a Championship brings to a fan.

I said when I was a little that I will watch all my teams win a Championship......It's taken 40 plus years and the last one remaining on my list is The Lions. I still hold out hope but I'm getting older.

Yeah i need a lions superbowl and sparty football NC. but i dont ever see either happening. Living in tennessee is it hard not to be a fan of the local teams? Ive lived in chicago since 06 and i wish i was a chicago sports fan since i live so close to the teams. Hell when i lived in michigan it was a 2 n a half hour to 3 hrs to drive from muskegon to detroit. About 20 mins longer than the ride from muskegon to chicago.

I try n like the blackhawks, but now everyone here is a hawk fan. When i moved here only the hockey die hards were fans. And ill root for the cubs since they are in the NL. but it seems like every sport detroit and chicago are rivals. So it makes it hard to root for chicago teams. And i live around 20 mins from the cell. But i hate the sox with a passion. Even tried to convince myself to root for the bears when i first moved here. But once they got cutler and i seen how blind bears fans are, there is no way. And it sucks because i wanna go to family night and meet the bears. Lol. Wish i lived in the detroit suburbs, but my wife wouldnt have that. Id root for the memphis grizzlies if i lived in tenn tho. Just because of zach randolph. Rode by the titans stadium last june when we drove down to orlando for vacation. Me and my friend were like damn! If the lions play down here its a straight shot down the highway......but of course, the lions ended up playing down there and we didnt go lol.

Burf i agree.....on mlive if the tigers lose 2 games the sky is falling and DD is horrible for not fixing BP. DD is the greatest thing to happen to the tigers. Do you think randy smith would of gotten us miggy? He prolly would of gotten us willis minus cabrera. Then resigned him a few years later as he did ausmus.

Being a chiefs fan burf, we know your not a frontrunner. One of my good friends back in mich was a huge chiefs fan. I used to love watching the nigerian nightmare run people over.

I have a few other teams i still check in on from time to time that i liked growing up along with my home teams....big rams fan when they had dickerson....big flyers fan in the 80's pelle lindberg......loved canseco n mcgwires A's.......always been a kobe fan since day one and a magic johnson fan so i always liked the lakers....but always rooted for the pistons......now i find myself liking the edmonton oilers and the young kids they have.

No, It's easy, the hard part is keeping my nieces and nephews from changing sides......I lost one of the boys in hockey after going to a game where the Predators crushed the Wings 6-3 when he was young.

I still got him on the Tigers bus, thankfully they have done well during his years of liking teams only because they win phase, that and he has the full set of the 2005 or 06 season when Verlander was a rookie set unopened. He's a solid Tiger fan now. I kept the girls in tact with hockey.

It was a fight living in TN but kept most of the damage to a minimum.
