I see Dirks as a 4th OF down the road. He's solid in many areas, just not great at any one. Not good enough to start regularly, but good enough to have on the bench and get spot starts and use in multiple ways.

And though we certainly don't know what Peralta is like as a OFer, I doubt he'll ever be as good a defensive OFer as Dirks. Dirks isn't a Gold Glover, but I'd put him at slightly above average as a defensive OFer.

Dirks was one of the best defenders in LF per Fangraphs.. I'd say his defense is borderline great to elite..

I'd say you're crazy! He's a borderline major leaguer. Borderline great to elite defenders aren't lifted for defensive replacements. I do think he's a solid baserunner. Which is rare on this team. And why I look forward to him pinch running 14or 15 hours from now for anyone other than Iggy, Infante, Torii or Jackson.

Look at his UZR rankings and it states otherwise.. He may not be a good baserunner and hitter. But he is a damn good fielder like it or not.. The numbers prove this..

Numbers prove alot.. I didn't say he's elite.. The guy is a 4th outfielder.. But he is very good, almost elite in LF defensively.. Which still doesn't justify him being an everyday player.. Don Kelly could probably put up similar UZR numbers as well.. There were plently of guys great in a Corner OF spot defensively, doesn't mean that much because Corner OF is almost as unimportant defensively as 1st... But he is still great in LF.. Ideally if you have 2 guys good in the OF on defense, you can have a pylon in the other spot..

UZR proves nothing. I give that statistics zero credence.(anything with a +, or WAR,... Basically anything that isn't complied based off actual on field numbers, which is unfortunate when compiling defensive stats. As Fielding percentage, put outs and assists don't tell a very complete story) And I said I think he is a decent baserunner. I don't think Dirks is a poor player anything. My opinion is not far from anything else that has been weighed in on him. I just don't see as much value in a left hand hitting fourth corner outfielder. Not when there already is another who has other values to the team. Doesn't it seem odd that an "elite" defensive player has been commonly lifted for defensive replacements over the last several seasons?

It probably wouldn't have been missed if Miggy hadn't slowed so badly. Or if Dirks had hit well down the stretch. Or if Hunter hadn't went thru spurts with very little production. Or if Jackson.... Man... For an offense that produced so well, on the whole, they sure are streaky aren't they?

The timing with Ricky bothered me tonight, a lot.

It made no sense but that has always beens jls biggest flaw. He didnt even realize he had an elite closer in benoit.

First of all Leyland does this because that's his way.. I guarantee you on any other team he wouldn't be lifted because of his defense.. UZR tells a lot, and the fact that you are just totally dismissive to SABER stats says a lot.. I don't agree with everything there is about those particular brand of stats, but UZR is a very telling one.. Don't tell me Andrelton Simmons is a subpar fielder because the eyeball test simply proves he's the best defender in the majors as his UZR indicates.. SABER stats are good guidelines to measuring a player in areas base stats won't tell if you use them correctly. No one is stating they are the end all be all., but for you to completely dismiss this is quite ignorant.. But to each their own.. I'm simply stating that Dirks is probably our second best outfielder after Jackson, or possibly the third after Kelly.. I never stated whether I wanted him or not, but there are a lot of good OFers on the market that can field close to or on par with him that are superior hitters.. So if I had the choice, I would pursue someone else of course..

Tiger batters just tied an ALDS record with 19 straight scoreless innings. Bravo, guys!

I spent that entire half-inning in the bathroom.

That always used to work in the past. Not a good omen.
