A little bit off topic, but the Tigers play at 1 PM Monday... How weird is that? Man... I don't think I ever remembered that time/day combination for a ballgame..

Aside from Day-Night double headers, I can't think of the last time a Monday afternoon game happened. Helloooo three hour lunch! (I'm taking a three hour lunch to watch the Lions tomorrow also)

I personally didn't think BBQ deserved a roster spot for the playoffs.. Also did they actually allow 2E on the roster as well? That would be a joke.. But my concern was the offense.. Sonny Gray wasn't even that good and he still pitched a shutout.. Not good at all..

Al Al has actually been one of the better RP's for the Tigers in the past month. This is a relative thing; the Tigers bullpen has been pretty shaky. They have Putkonen and Alvarez on the roster vs Oakland, which says quite a bit about the limited options they had among RP's. If they didn't keep Al Al, then they were looking at someone like Evan Reed. I felt that they should have kept Downs instead of Alvarez, but not sure that JL would have trusted him in that 9th inning situation tonight.

btw, 2E is not on the roster for this round. They kept Hernan Perez instead.

As far as Gray ... I completely disagree. I thought the kid was very good. That is a nasty curve that he throws to go with a strong fastball.

I was concerned last night when Smyly came in. But was happy to see his velocity up. Seeing him tonight, for the second game in a row, seemed like pushing his luck. But what can you do? He's all you've got to go to in that situation.

No doubt. It says a lot about the problems that the Tigers have in the bullpen. The Tigers have the better rotation; the A's the better bullpen. If we don't have the lead going into the late innings, we are in trouble.

Let me rephrase.. He was good but not 8 inning shutout good.. Probably on par with Colon last night.. Al Al hasn't been bad lately but it wasn't a long enough sample size to warrant a spot over a relief pitcher that has better splits against lefties IMO, which is something they desperately needed.. And I'm glad 2E is not on the roster this round, but he could be on the hill for the next(I only wondered because I saw him on the bench tonight)? I hope not.. Alvarez probably shouldn't be on the roster either, so I agree there..

Tiger bats have to come alive. Miggy cant drive the ball. Prince has to step up and drive the ball. He has to do some damage. He did nothing in last years post season.

yeah cabrera and fielder didnt do a thing but jackson was utter crap and a significant reason why we lost tonight.

the rat bastard had 4 strikeouts tonight and swung on the 3-0 ball that would have juiced the bases. he is the one that needs to step up the most.
cabrera is going to be consistently hampered and teams will specialize fielder out but if jackson stays off the bases we lose what speed we do have and turn martinez into a lead off hitter.

That's a great point on Jackson.. A brutal game, but no need to insult him lol.. I don't agree with having Martinez hitting leadoff.. Have Infante in the spot instead..

I think the frustrating thing is watching the bottom third of the order. It is almost as if they are going up to the plate without a bat in their hands. Hopefully getting back to DTW wakes up their bats and a lot of that depends on Miggy.

The only player that really disappointed is AJ. He seems lost at the plate.

Can't believe they would schedule a game at 10:00 AM (PDT). No chance of watching that one.

Were you even sober when you made this post? No one said the team is garbage dumbass.. Just the offense and it's been an issue the last month.. They also have some BP issues as well but I and several others mentioned how the starting pitching has been stellar.. You seriously don't know shit about sports.. You just have an agenda..

just in. jhonny will start in LF in game 3. JL was probably hesitant about Jhonny in the big OF with lots of foul ground in oakland.

I'm guessing Dirks is the first regular to be out the door when the season is over. DK and Peralta with back to back playoff starts, against righties, spells the end, IMO. Of course, when you've got no-hit and shutout by two rookies in three games Leylands got to look for someone to jump start the offense. Donnie Boy got two weak hits, but nobody could drive him in. Maybe Jhonny brings better luck(offensive production) at home tomorrow afternoon?

I doubt Dirks is out. lets remember the scouting report on Dirks in the minors was a ceiling of a fourth OF. he will be arb eligible (first time) and still probably has options left. Dirks a better bench option that matt T. andy just may not be someone that is a starter. Probably backup OF behind Nick C next season.

I don't see much use for a left hand hitting 4th outfielder when the Tigers have another, who can also play the infield. I also don't see Nicky C. being on the 25 man roster,(Toledo or traded) unless Detroit wins the World Series. Which would require some runs. Hopefully Jhonny gets things going in that department.
