Yes, when a lefty reliever faces a lefty hitter, and after one pitch a 2-run deficit becomes a 4-run deficit, that is a huge issue.

The Tigers have an issue with LHPs in the bully, for sure. But there aren't a lot of good ones available. This is why guys like Darren Oliver are still pitching in the Bigs at age 68, despite a career 4.50 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.

I agree.. This loss pissed me off.. Losing a series at home to the twins is crap... Should not happen. The twins lineup was horrible and they carved him up... I would rather see them peak in Oct... but seriously.. this team is frustrating... they need to get it together.. because at this point.. I am not happy with their focus... They need another 6-10 game streak to pull away or else they are going to have to actually fight for the division title... and Miggy needs rest...

Pissed at this game.. and its all on Verlander... he needs to quit putting the ball over the plate on 0-2 counts.. How many hits did he have on 1-2 or 0-2 counts.. seriously...

Miggy was 2 for 13 this series and he needs a rest. Stay home this weekend, heal up a bit, and come back when you're healthier. September is the run for the championship, not August.

Alex avila in the lineup tonight in toledo. Hopefully he will be back soon. Tigers 49-24 in his starts. Staff is just better with alex behind the plate.

Ha! I was seriously about to post the same thing adrian ... that I think the Tigers need Avila back. For whatever reason, the staff likes him behind the plate. Not to mention that opponents are 100% in stolen base attempts with Pena/Holoday behind the plate these last several days.

On Verlander, this was a step backward. Before this game, he had a 2.48 ERA in four starts, and his velocity looked to be returning. Yesterday, the announcers said he had one fastball at 96, a couple at 94, and every other one was 90-93. A low 90's fastball in a poor location is very hittable, no matter who is throwing it. And JV's WHIP numbers show it.

The Tigers are really just one good hot streak away from locking up the Central, especially because the team chasing us has only three head-to-head games left against us. I think the Tigers will have one good streak still .... a 9-of-10 or 10-of-12 kind of thing. Hopefully it happens early enough that Miguel can get healthy.
