Tigers shut out for the 7th time on Friday, after being shut out only twice in the regular season all last year. Great pitching and no hitting in Game 1, good hitting and crummy pitching in Game 2. Result: two more 1-run losses. That seems to be the big reason the Tigers cannot pull away yet... can't get their hitting and pitching going in the same game often enough. I still think over a 162-game season, that stuff works itself out and the cream rises to the top. We shall see.

I agree 100 percent. They just cant put the two together AND sometimes when they get the SP and hitting clicking together, the BP or leyland blow it. They all need to get on same page. Then they can all have a day off on one day where they all suck.

But i agree.....thats what makes baseball so different from football...162 games, the better teams usually rise to the top, unlike the NFL where a few great sundays when needed can push an underdog to the playoffs.

I agree the pen is looking better, but id feel more comfortable with one good proven vet for middle relief.

Wonder what we would have to give up for crain and alexi ramirez.....ramirez would give us protection for peralta next year if hes suspended and he can also play 2B if infante was to continue to be hurt. Give us infield depth and BP depth.

I wouldnt want to part with castellanos, but if the sox would take garcia and any other group of prospects id do it. Sox are desperate to make deals according to chicago media. But i wouldnt mortgage the farm. Alexi is a great defender also.....he just looks like a crackhead.

with brawns suspension I am rather worried about Peralta. We can not afford to lose him this year.

Braun agreed with his suspension - in a sense, he cut a deal. Peralta does not have to do the same. He can appeal [arbitration] any penalty given him this season and at least postpone it. But think of this:

Say Peralta gets 50 days. If he waits and loses his appeal over the winter....then he is out for 50 games at the start of the season. Since he is a free agent - that might cut into any contract offered him for 2014. Financially, it might be better to accept the suspension now...if one comes about.

Agreed burfboy tigers will be fine yeah i dont care for the mindset that the sky is falling so quickly either. A player has a bad game and they are so quickly thrown under the bus muzzer is driving.

There is no way peralta takes a suspension this year unless hes injured or the tigers fall out of it. He will take 50 games off next year and wait for the right deal i believe. But hes not going to throw away a chance at the WS.

did it look like miggy had a sports hernia when he went around 3rd? Hope not. He looked in pain and mad. Geez we already have backup 2B. a SS who might get suspended. We dont need our stud 3B hurt too.

Atleast Dirks shouldn't be playing the outfield the rest of the series. Or Avila behind the plate. Gotta love those opposing lefties.

24 games in Toledo Garcia is hitting .426....how can they keep him down on the farm? He would look good in LF.....I am tired of this guy has to play because he is left handed or not....

Crain yes. Alexi? I dunno. He is hitting .284 and has good speed. But he also leads all MLB shortstops with 16 errors this year.

burf.....I thought everything is OK with Detroit? You said................... (joke)

Maybe, if Miggy goes on the DL, Garcia returns? But, actually, I'd just as soon see Matt Tui in LF - perhaps even against a righty starter.

After his 4-for-5 night, V-mart is now hitting .425 in July. Yes, I'd say he's back. That 2-out, 2-run single yesterday on a tough pitch was huge.

Ditto....if Peralta decides to cut a deal and take his suspension time this year....then, maybe Ramirez. But I'd look real hard for an alternative. Cliff Pennington is available from the D'Backs...good field (ss/2b) but no bat.
