Yeah, the town gets pretty tame in the winter. I'm not far, it's actually an awesome place to go chill at the beach, walk downtown, get a drink and a bite to eat... The Butler has maybe the best burgers in the state. Really cool town. Just very.... artsy.

But I have a brother-in-law who is a Sparty. He Bleeds Green (which is creepy when it happens)
He grew up in Holland, MI.
Lives in Saugatuck, MI.
Pretty sure he would take offense to Detroit claiming MSU as their own.

City (Metro Area) 1st, State 2nd ... that my priority. That is why I always root for Michigan abvove Michigan State. I'm just sayin' that a lot of people in this area will go up for a basketball or football game and come back the same day. MSU is only 90 miles away and I know that New York and Philadelphia are probably that close or closer, but those are established cities. The Universities really belong to the people who went there. Detroit is a great sports town, that doesn't make us superior or give us a lower crime rate ... it just is. If SportsHoopla was an indicator, people would probably say San Francisco (which includes Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento, etc...) or Dallas.

So we don't lay sole claim to Michigan State or the Detroit Red Wings (which is America's Hockey Team and the only NHL team north of Canada.

I don't know about that. I mean, the name "hockey town" was self named, not something the people of America came up with. I don't consider any team in any sport "America's" team.

by definition... if a city is further NORTH by its latttitude (longitude? whatever) than another city... and that city travels SOUTH to get to another point... would not, by pure definition, those other cities also have to travel SOUTH to get to the same spot?

That statement is technically the first one that is correct... but was not your original statement, nor was it your revised statement.

two statements were made.
1. "Only team NORTH of Canada." Proven incorrect

You never said right or let turns were not eventually allowed into the equation, only the direction south.
