Detroit is a shit-hole city. Ravaged by dirty politicians, crime, apathy, loss of manufacturing, age, poor planning, drugs and poor K-12 education. The suburbs are nicer but still feel the effects of Detroit. All this is true and one day I pray we get better.

BUT FUCK MAN, WE LOVE OUR SPORTS AND WERE HONORED FOR DOING SO...

Everyone can make arguments, but when you can draw 1.5 million people to downtown Detroit to celebrate (peacefully) a Stanley Cup, you can stand along side and say your pretty great.

Its easy to pick on Detroit. Take a challange, and say something good about the city.

A girl from Dearborn once let me take her home from the bar we met at.

Fucking great post. I've doled out too much rep, but I will get you back. Picking on Detroit is some pretty low hanging fruit, I do it from time to time but it's all in jest. I visit the city, I like the city, and I'm rooting for it's rebound.

The clowns who have never been and feel the need to talk smack about it either have microscopic peckers or no imagination. Picking on Detroit, huh? How original, Jay Leno has been making weak Detroit jokes for what, 20 years now? What's next, an OJ Simson crack? Are you going to rip on Vanilla Ice? Yeah, we get it, there's high unemployment and a massively eroded tax base leading to a city that can't maintain it's infrastructure, respond quickly to fires, or keep crime under control. Hilarious.

Good things about Detroit:

Detroit has some of the coolest architecture in the world, a great downtown, and consistently pumps out innovative, groundbreaking music (Kid Rock nonwithstanding).

Also, Detroit Coneys ftw!

Agreed 100%. I always loved going downtown to a Wings or Tigers game. Not once did I ever have any problems when I did. I always felt safe and always had a good time when I went downtown. I also worked at a brokerage firm downtown for a few years.

I tell ya, now that I'm there anymore, I would fucking kill someone for a coney dog. Everytime family comes down here to visit I tell them to bring coney island chili, and they never do. :mad2:

And to think I used to respect the sporting news..

Exactly, how could something be respectable if it gives props to Detroit?

/every year, some publication gives a list of it's "Best Sports Towns", and every year a Great Lakes/Midwest/Northeast city wins. Minny, Chicago, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philly, Milwaukee, Indy, Detroit, etc all "take turns" based on the price of tea in China. And of course, every year someone gets their panties in a double sheepshank.
