Detroit Born and Raised
Ann Arbour is part of Detroit? I thought it was farther away than that.
Ann Arbor (not Arbour - were not Canada) approximately 45 miles and East Lansing approximately 90 miles

You were the designated driver, weren't you?

Meh

Cant claim Sparty, sorry. Too far. (And MU is borderline.
Otherwise DC can claim the Ravens and NYC can claim the Philly teams.

Never pronounced MU it is always U of M. And where the premise of your retort is true (from an east coast point of view). The further west you go the distance from your hometown teams grows. It is not unusual for people to drive from Detroit Metro area to East Lansing for a Michigan State game. The distance from downtown Detroit to the Palace (where the Detroit Pistons would play) is approximately the same distance from Detroit to the Big House in Ann Arbor. But all this may be the reason we are the best sports city, distance is not an big issue.
It's really a state thing. All of Michigan loves its sports teams (college or pro) very, very much.
This is cool and all and I'm gonna let you finish, but first...

What's going on, is someone giving away free butter?
Unlikely, we make our own 'round these parts...

(yes, I corrected my "MU" thing. That was a brain fart for sure.)
So it's a state thing.
Which is fine too.
Claim MICHIGAN. I have no beef with that. (though I'm sure the claim of "best" will bring out the ire of at least 20 other states. But.. hell. It's subjective. It's proof-proof. It's all in the rosey colored glasses of the wearer. Whddayagonnado)
But I have a brother-in-law who is a Sparty. He Bleeds Green (which is creepy when it happens)
He grew up in Holland, MI.
Lives in Saugatuck, MI.
Pretty sure he would take offense to Detroit claiming MSU as their own.
Just sayin'![]()
Another great sports town! Greco-Roman wrestling, lots of pitchers and catchers, pole jumping, etc...
