Could be Reiff still if we acquire Brandon Albert like some rumors are suggesting...

Unless that UFA we brought in somehow impresses beyond belief I think that is probably correct. Other than Hilliard and Fox we will have to wait to see who else they bring in.

I am more concerned with a backup LT. We have no one behind Reiff. I think we would all like a quality LT brought in and Rieff moved to RT where he belongs. Fox can be the backup LT and Hilliard the backup RT in a perfect world.

I think we should bring in UDFA Luke Marquardt.

6'8" OT who the scouts raved about during his pro day workout. Supposedly very athletic and fluid. Played at a small school, but I'm shocked that he wasn't drafted in the later rounds...

Nevermind, looks like the 49ers signed him. We should let him go through their training camp and then steal him off their practice squad if they try to sneak him on there...

This just in per TopNotch Sports: Corey Hilliard will claim the RT spot for 2013. Also, Tahir Whitehead is favored to win the OLB position this year, the team likes him.

Are they basing that off anything, or is it just an op-ed piece?

From what I've read this offseason Fox should be considered to be the favorite at RT...

I agree about Whitehead being the favorite at OLB. They raved about his athleticism last year in camp, but he was more of a "rush" LB in college, so he needed time to adjust to playing in a 4-3 system...

Do you have a link so I can read what they had to say? I tried googling it, but I can only find a sportsbetting site under that name...

I think the RT isn't on the roster yet! I think Detroit will look at a team that drafted a OT high and needs to clear cap space and will look to offer a garbage pick for a guy with some gas still in the tank.

I doubt the Alberts idea! From what I am reading he wants a boatload of money.

I hope the Lions find a diamond in the rough with the UDFAs for the OLB spot -- Maybe Alex Elkins. He was a solid player for Oklahoma State.

I'm not sure Ashlee Palmer is the answer at OLB and while Tahir Whitehead is supposed to be pretty good against the run, he was terrible dropping into coverage in college and that will only be magnified in the NFL. Then again -- maybe with the addition of Quin and if Delmas is healthy, it will take alot of pressure off the OLBs in coverage.

Any way you look at it -- if Detroit is able to get production out of their DE picks (Ansah and Taylor) -- the Lions should have a better defense than last year, so a slight weak spot at OLB isn't going to really hurt the team.

The nice thing for the OLB spot is we only need a two down player. When we go into the nickel (which is over 50% of our defensive snaps) Tulloch and Levy will be the LBs.

So if Whitehead is good against the run then that's more important than his coverage skills right now. Hopefully he'll improve in that department, though...

It still baffles me a bit that people treat the #3 LB as a starter, but not the nickel CB. The nickel back plays more snaps than the 3rd LB, yet in the lead-up to the draft that LB spot got a lot of attention.

Finding a good two-down OLB isn't all that hard. Fining a quality slot CB should be more of a priority in today's NFL, imo...
