if you want to bring in WAR, oWAR, dWAR

Derek Jeter is 20th all time in oWAR... yes that is 20th all time, and not just out of only the SS position...

except for the fact he played a position where offensive numbers were not that great... There is a huge difference between being a SS and any other position... Plus, you are not respecting the statistics that show longevity and consistency...

We already covered this. Joe Torre once made Jeter the fifth shortstop selected the All Star team because Nomar, ARod, Tejada and Omar were all outperforming him offensively and they all had an OPS+ in excess of 120. But Joe was not going to 'disrespect' Jeter despite the fact that Jeter was undeserving that year.

20th all time?

Sounds like the first unanimous selection

If he had 2800 hits, you think he wouldn't be in? That's far-fetched.
No, if he had 2800 hits he would still make it because of his legacy. But, his legacy was built upon the exaggeration of his importance to his team by the New York media, Fox Sports and ESPN.

He has his career with 2800 hits in at least 25 other francchises, and he is just another Bill Buckner/Al Oliver/Rusty Staub/Vada Pinson/Dave Parker/Harold Baines.

What would be his laurels to rest on?

Let's start off by NOT bringing up World Series rings. There is very little evidence that rings help players get into the Hall.

How many hitters have made it into the Hall without 3000 hits or 500 HRs?

There are a few so it wouldn't be impossible certainly. But the argument becomes far less compelling. The guys I can think of that did do it were guys that were considered defensive wizards(Brooks Robinson, Roberto Alomar). Derek Jeter was never anything more than an adequate defensive SS.

Yeah but he didn't have 2800 hits

And he didn't play anywhere else

Lmao

If we ignore the 30 point difference in career BA

Or we could also ignore Biggios ONE 200 hit season to Jeters 8

Really, I could keep going

Jeter's OPS+ 115
Biggio's OPS+ 112

Jeter was a better contact hitter. Biggio had more power.

Somebody's making crap up...

Jeter had a better 1st half 2002 OPS than both Vizquel and Tejada....but somehow you rewrote history to say they outperformed him offensively.

Yeah, OPS+ is another statistical crutch people like to use

You can't pretend that his stats at shortstop didn't take place because there were better options, and that's why your logic here is absurd.

If I remember correctly, you're a Red Sox fan. If so, you can understand where I'm coming from when I say:

I fucking hate it when I find myself defending Yankees.

What a ridiculous argument. Gee, so the guy who played a LOT more postseason games than anyone else in baseball history, leads a lot of cumulative stats? You don't say?

I just posted a link to that. It's the one that Rock thought he posted.
