There's an interesting article at Schoenfield's SweetSpot at ESPN.com, where writer Christina Kahrl describes the "average" position player at each position in the Major Leagues. Guess what? Rod Barajas made her list as the "average" major league catcher and Clint Barmes is her "average" major league shortstop. Unfortunately, she indicates that their 2011 home run totals helped make them her selections for the list. Seems likely that their power numbers will decline at PNC Park.

- The good news is that the Pirates' replacements for Cedeno and Doumit/Snyder could have been worse.

- The bad news is that those two acquisitions moved the Pirates' roster sideways (i.e. no improvement).

Sounds like a typical Neal Huntington major league roster move, to me.

Interesting that the average bat in CF is so high on the list, when CF is usually a premium defensive position.

Well Tony Sanchez apparently broke his jaw for the third time (in a bar fight a few months ago) so Tony Sanchez is way above average in getting his jaw broken.

wow... 3 broken Jaws... For a non professional boxer that has to be some kind of record. And if every time you get into a fight you end up with a broken Jaw... Maybe it is time to reconsider getting into any more fights... Does not seem like he does to well when he decides to mix it up.

He broke it three times? I know about the one two years ago getting hit with a pitch, what was the second one?

The more I hear about this kid, the more I dislike him. He got himself in trouble last season in the Eastern League by posting some comments about an ump on Twitter... and now he's out brawling in a bar? And by the sound of it, getting his ass kicked :tsk:

C'mon man, you're making upwards of 2 million dollars. It's time to grow up.

The Bucs can ill afford to strike out on a first rounder, but if the guy is self-destructing on his own, that's even worse.

As long as he tuns into a productive major league baseball player I could care less what he does off the field, within the realm of reason.

I with thecrow I hope he can improve to become a major league player.
But how much longer do they hold on to him before they let go (trade or release)?

I think after this year if he gets past by another Catcher prospect he is bundled in a trade.

If he is making 2 million a year he can afford boxing lessons surely...

If I am not mistaken, he is making about $58,500 per season in the minor leagues, probably not enough to get any good boxing lessons. However, his signing bonus should have been plenty.
