Then who are you projecting the DB's to look like on roster at final cut?

I'm projecting they'll look pretty much the same as they do now.

Not sure how the safeties will shake out, but I see our 6 CBs being Slay, Greenwood, Green, Mathis, Bentley and Lawson.

I think Houston has surgery on that toe and heads to the IR...

I figured you would have pegged Cassius Vaughn as a starter. Most off season aquisitions are studs to you.:noidea:

Couldn't resist in kicking the tires on this post. Sorry brah :suds:

Hehe....81 inch Vertical? I'd really love to see that.....

Despite rainy, 32-degree weather conditions, Couplin ran his 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds, performed 18 reps on the 225-pound bench press, ran the short shuttle in 4.41 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.94 seconds.
Couplin also posted a vertical jump of 41.5 inches and a broad jump of 11 feet and two inches. Those numbers would’ve tied for second and first overall, respectively, at the Combine where players enjoyed the cozy, indoor confines of Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis

Most GMs would never cut a 4th rounder because it says "I failed big time."

The Lions have drafted one other cornerback in the 4th round during the Milenhew era. A.J. Davis in 2007. By September, 2007, he was a member of the Cleveland Browns practice squad.

Millen was actually the GM in 2007. Mayhew didn't take over till 2009, for what that's worth...

Not sure how I feel about his surgery. I'm not a fan of his to begin with but his play in 2012 was solid. If he returns to that form I want him on the team. If he plays like last year I'm happy to make him a June 2 cut.

Seem to have myself a bit of a man crush on Greenwood who will get more reps with Houston sidelined. I'm happy about that. I guess as I think about it a bit more, at least from my personal perspective, this is good news.

Hopefully he wont be ready for the start of camp so the new staff can get a really good look at Greenwood and Green. So we can truly find out what we might have there. If its nothing then we can all hope Houston returns healthy and back to his 2012 form, and does so before the season starts.

Had to go back a ways to dig up a thread dedicated to the DBs...

Anywho, I've been reading the name Aaron Hester as a surprise 5th or 6th CB on the final roster.

I'm a bit familiar with him as I wanted us to pick up him and/or his battery-mate at UCLA Sheldon Price, both 6'0"+ CBs with fast 40 times and good measurables, as UDFAs after the 2013 draft. Price is now with the Colts, last I knew.

Sounds like they like Hester's size (6'0" 207 lbs.) and speed (reportedly clocked a 4.3 at the UCLA Pro Day this year as a sophomore free agent) so far and he's done well mirroring WRs off the line through OTAs this spring.

Who knows if there's fire to this smoke, but he's a "nobody" to keep an eye on through camp this year. He's got all the tools to be an effective CB in our scheme, so don't be surprised if he knocks off Vaughn, Green, or Greenwood for that last CB spot...

New name for the Lions secondary:

The morgue. Cause they're stiff as hell and stink like rotting flesh.

Also because it's easy to throw TD bombs over dead bodies.

Jonte Green has apparently been looking good to start camp. That's certainly encouraging, we need some of these young guys to step it up...

Don't look now, but Chris Greenwood is climbing back into the battle for that last spot at CB.

I hope he and Jonte Green can claim two spots and send Cassius Vaughn packing...

^^^ would be great to finally see Greenwood step up and solidify an outside CB spot. I still find it difficult to fathom that Gunther, Schwartz never tried to convert him to FS ( IMO, an easier transition for Greenwood coming out of Albion and he has all the physical traits to warrant that conversion as a centerfield FS). He needs 7-8 games with quite a bit of snaps, JMO

Whelp, round 2 of the Drayton Florence Experiment ended rather quickly.

He was garbage for us the first time around. Last year he clearly landed in the ideal situation.

Also realize that Carolina's secondary was not that good. They just kept everything in front of them. The front 7 was so good that teams did not get too many opportunities to exploit them early and had to settle for FGs.

He was, at least he did not unseat someone on the roster. As in Mathis being better last and this year. Be really nice to see one...just frickin one of these kids step up.
