What is our biggest need going into the off season?

I say DEFENSE should be the first to address. Yes we have needs on both sides of the ball but the question is what is biggest need Def or Off?

When couched in your terms, it has to be defense. Going into the offseason, we have only 1 CB and zero ILBs under contract. The defense is terrible. The offense can at least move the ball and we have one of the best running games in the league.

The most important position(s) to be addressed next year is o-line. Even if that comes atthe expense of less defense.

Orakpo. Riley is very solid but - if used correctly - Orakpo can be an outright monster & disruptive force on defense. They need to keep him & Kerrigan together for the long haul.

I love other Skins fans. A yes or no question and they will answer maybe. A black and white question and they will answer red. Defense or offense and you pick a GM who I have never heard of playing either side of the ball. :L

I just don't want to overpay for Rak then lose Riley. You think we can get these two guys for 10 mil per season? I figured 6 for Rak and 4 for Riley

Dean, seriously? $6M fro Rak?? Dude, he's going to get every bit of 8-10M, maybe more, from someone. He is a top 10 OLB, especially in the last 6 games. Riley's going to cost more than 4 also. Maybe not too much more but he has had a pretty good season.

Yeah even if you're #10 in the top 10 that's still pretty impressive. I'm sure some def coordinators feel Orakpo hasn't been used to his full potential yet and would LOVE to have him. He's not a guy I'd wanna lose, especially since we will have money.

Doesnt matter since honestly we should have around $40 million in cap space, we can afford to keep both. And both should be resigned. Letting either walk should be not an option. The real question becomes who do we bring in as the other starting ILB.

Im at a toss up on keeping Merriweather at safety, we should. But not sure if we will.

As to the original question... Our biggest need is defense. But our most pressing need is to fix the Offensive line.

I forget what Merriweather's number is for 2014, but I remember thinking it was kinda high for a guy that is injury prone and is good for 6-8 personal fouls a year. I'd like to replace him, but probably realize that its not realistic this next year. We have other holes we have to fill, we can't afford to make new ones.

His cap number is $3.4 million. We save $2.2 if we cut him. I think he stays though.

That's not as bad as I thought. We should probably keep him and fill other holes. To replace him with someone better will cost us north of $5M.

I don't have the same confidence after what has transpired over the last 3 weeks. If I were a FA I'd have to give serious thought if I wanted to spend the next 5 years in this circus. Orakpo and others (Riley, hall) have to be concerned that the franchise could be a career killer no matter how much money they throw at you.

the answer to the OP's question is simply the LOS on both sides of the ball

we need 4 new starters on offense and 2 new starters on defense

So many holes...

Our offense struggles against good defenses, our defense struggles against all offenses, so...defense

wait a minute 10 mil a season for Rak? lol. A massive overpay. When Kerrigan is a FA in 2015 how much is he worth? Another 10 million? I know we have money but we have to use it wisely. 7 mil per season should be top dollar for Rak. If he gets offered 10 mil a season elsewhere then good for him but I cant see that happening. Don't get me wrong guys, I want him back but with all of out holes we need to spend the money wisely. I don't see why Riley should make more than 4 mil per season either.
