An elite D doesn't need help from it's offense to make it easier.

you need to be good on both sides to be elite. you cant have an elite defense and a crap offense, you wont win sb with that. likewise elite offense but crap defense. the offense needs to get back to form for us to make a serious run at a championship elite defense or not.

Defense def played better and looked good. I think TB has more offensive weapons that are good. Not ready to call them elite yet, not even close. I will tell you what I think after the next 3 games. Looks like we might catch Atl at the right time. Going to be interesting to say the least.

They were giving up fairly consistent ball movement until VJax got hurt, and the bucs are not a good offense. They have the pieces to be very good but the title "elite" is earned by facing the best, not the worst.

Their defense is giving up an average of 9 points per game (14 to Buffalo, 10 to NYJ, 3 to TB). They have not yet been tested, but there's not much more they could have done in the games they've played. We'll see about next week.

buff and ny were playing their sb's that defensive effort is very good. tb has more talent then both of them but they were not playing their sb. pats d has performed as expected. the real good teams will score a bit more but no team is gunna light this d up. pats need to be a bit more aggressive imo similar to seattle but even if they dont we still in good shape.

I still think this explanation is virtually meaningless. Buffalo and the Jets are undertalented teams. When you're starting off against three bottom-10 offenses, having a top 10 defense could mean you're average.

dude if you cant tell between a team playing their sb against you or not theres no hope. teams playing their sb against you significanctly impacts the game. it makes it harder for us. the fact that the d shut down two teams playing their sb against us speaks volumes. this d is legit. this d can take your best and this d can prevaile. this defense is the new NE Patriots defenss, Rebuilt from the ground up, through MANY drafts. this is the fruit of our labor. we accumilated talent, we got every peice, this d is ready to make a STATEMENT. because we got studs now. it took awhile but we finally got them. this defense is the best defense the pats had since 04. haters cry, but the pats defense is BACK.

I think you're using different notions of the word 'elite'. Some people would say top 5 IS elite, because the standard for elite is "one of the best few defenses this year", while others would say top 5 isn't elite because not even the best defense every year is elite; elite is like the '85 Bears or '00 Ravens.

I would say that it's a moot point: they won't be a top 5 defense after they've played a few more competent offenses. They're the best they've been in years, but they're not elite right now.
