I am only a little surprised at this. Lapham said after the pick, the he had heard the Bengals felt that Zietler was the more physical guy. He may lack the "nasty" that DeCastro showed, but he was the more physical guard, and the Bengals were looking to improve their run blocking with Zietler, over the pass blocking that more favored DeCastro.

I'll admit though, I really wanted DeCastro. However, after the pick, I was ok with either guy at the spot.

I'm not shocked at all. The first day of Steelers football practice was the first time DeCastro actually lined up against an NFL caliber d-linemen. He played in the Pac-10 for god sakes.....

I was a DeCastro fan but loved the move of trading down and snagging Zeitler plus B. Thompson. I still think DeCastro will be an exceptional O-lineman but Zeitler should be a stud, too. The Wisconsin O-linemen are amongst the safest picks in the draft. Those guys always seem to be good.

Yeah, I think in 2011 three Wisc. players were drafted from their Oline. All 3 started as rookies.

If the only worry is he isn't there physically yet, I doubt there is too much concern looking into the future.

Plus, nobody argued that DeCastro should be drafted because he'll be ready right from the start. They (myself included) argued for DeCastro because they think he'll be better than Zeitler.

Premature thread.

You also have to take into consideration what Defense DeCastro is going up against in training camp to!!! You better believe they are gonna be tough on him!!!!

I don't think it's a premature thread. A LOT of people penciled in DeCastro starting right away. While I don't think it's a huge deal, he's currently getting beat out by a 3rd year undrafted F/A. For a guy who was taken in the 1st round of the draft as a guard, and considered by many to be one of the best Guards to come along in a long, long time...it is somewhat surprising.

Yes, the steeler defense would pose some good matchups for DeCastro, but the Bengals defense, while not as good as the Steelers, was not bad last year at all for Zeitler to be going up against as a rookie, too.

It's also interesting because these two guys are going to be linked together for most of their careers.

Exactally ....then to have to worry about the possibility of either Harrison or Woodley coming through....

I'm not worried about DeCastro's physical limitations. For many years (decades even), the Steelers have been at the forefront of PED development and implementation. He'll just need a cycle or two to catch up with the other juicers on that squad.

Several high-profile talking heads thought Zeitler was a better athlete. Now we are hearing that DeCastro's physical limitations are making it difficult to beat out a FA..... While I agree that it's too early to panic, I think it illustrates why DeCastro lasted as long as he did when early in the process some people had him in the top 12 of the draft.

In all seriousness....for the first time in years we have a line that we are not debating about who the weaker link is!!! for the first time in many years Ben may not see the skyline of the NFL stadiums over a hundred times this year!!!!

Wish y'all the best of luck this year, well except for 2 games anyway!!!
If y'all get it working around your QB and WR this year...y'all will look very very good!!!!

Not only is he struggling physically, but my Steelers insider also tells me he is struggling mentally too. He isn't learning the protection or the audibles.

Well, first off...I don't think if you were already struggling in one aspect you would just go ahead and admit that you are also struggling in the other aspect. That wouldn't be smart from a personal standpoint. (Not saying he is struggling mentally, just saying if he were, I doubt he'd admit it).

Also, he's starting on Thursday because the LG is injured and the RG over him is being moved to LG. So, not exactly like he's earned that spot. But, it's early. Some OL take some time to get used to the game, and others don't. He's certainly smart enough. He's just got to get more physical.

To be fair, I find Ben hard to understand as well. The dude speaks like a caveman. Has sex like one too......... Allegedly.
